Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled PCV/HGV Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and be adept at various engineering tasks, including vehicle safety inspections, servicing, MOT preparation, general vehicle repair and completing associated paperwork accurately. This role requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving and the ability to work predominantly with an apprentice whilst maintaining communication with the traffic team to ensure a high standard of maintenance is achieved efficiently and effectively.

Duties

Maintain our modern fleet of coaches to a high standard. Currently a fleet of 20 with an average age of under three years. Operate machinery such as brake rollers, vehicle inspection legs, steam cleaner, and power tools safely and efficiently. Liaise with vehicle manufacturers and third party contractors when repairs cannot be achieved in house, or where vehicles are under warranty. Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics on mechanical systems. Maintain a positive attitude to inquiries and resolve issues promptly and effectively. Keep a clean, tidy, and safe maintenance area, in line with up to date legislation. Pass on skills and knowledge where possible to the existing apprentice. Attend fleet breakdowns. Workshop vehicle provided. Some driving, as required.

Qualifications

Proven mechanical knowledge with experience in PCV/HGV repair and maintenance. Relevant experience or qualification required. Experience of 24 volt vehicle electrical systems. Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for effective workplace interactions. A proactive approach to work with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Experience at body repair / paint spraying desirable. Category D driving licence. Training available for the right candidate. Must be able to pass an enhanced DBS check.
