PHP Developer - WordPress & WooCommerce Specialist

We are seeking a talented PHP Developer with strong experience in custom WordPress development and specialised expertise in WooCommerce and PHP to join our growing team. This role is integral to the ongoing development of our online pharmacy platform, which plays a critical role in improving digital healthcare access for our patients.
You'll work closely with pharmacists, and support secure, scalable, and user-centric digital solutions that directly impact patient care and healthcare delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead the development and optimisation of our WooCommerce-based e-commerce system, focusing on security, functionality, and user experience. This will be made from scratch so will be a new project.
Maintain and improve custom PHP applications, ensuring robust performance and security.
Create and customise WordPress themes and plugins to meet evolving business needs and enhance site functionality.
Manage and optimise MySQL databases, ensuring data integrity and high performance.
Use JavaScript, jQuery, and front-end technologies to deliver interactive and responsive user interfaces.
Collaborate on UI/UX improvements using tools like Figma and Adobe XD to continuously enhance the digital patient experience.
Work with APIs and explore AI technologies to bring innovation to our platform.
Use Docker for containerisation and Git for version control to support efficient development workflows.
Design, develop, and maintain iOS and/or Android applications for patient engagement.
Build and maintain mobile features such as secure messaging, repeat prescription tools, medication reminders, and real-time notifications.
Integrate with external systems including NHS Login, Electronic Prescription Services (EPS), and in-house healthcare platforms.
Ensure all mobile and web solutions meet healthcare compliance standards (GDPR, NHS Digital).
What We're Looking For:
Demonstrable experience as a PHP Developer, with a strong portfolio of work involving WordPress and WooCommerce.
Proven experience developing mobile applications (iOS, Android, or cross-platform frameworks).
Proficiency in SCSS or other styling pre-processors.
Solid expertise in MySQL, including database design, optimisation, and security.
Strong skills in front-end development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Understanding of data privacy and security protocols, especially in healthcare contexts.
Experience with Docker and Git in collaborative development environments.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
