Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Self Employed Groundworker / Landscaper to join our team. The Groundworker is responsible for preparing construction sites for building work. This includes a variety of tasks such as laying foundations, installing drainage systems, and constructing temporary and permanent access roads. Most of our work is either at peoples homes or on construction sites.
This is a physically demanding role that requires attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team as well as on your own.
You will need previous work of Groundworks as well as Landscaping or gardening.
You will require your own transport and your own hand tools, be semi skilled with a basic knowledge of groundworks with the ability to forward think and plan.
Working Environment and Schedule
Work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Typical hours: 38-40 hours per week, often starting early and including weekends or overtime.
Frequent travel between sites; roles available as full-time, part-time, or contractual positions.
Protective gear (hard hats, high-vis vests, safety boots, masks, earmuffs) is mandatory.
Work will be in a 40 mile radius of York.
Desirable: Plant tickets but not essential
References will be required
Key Responsibilities
Excavation and Foundations: Dig trenches for foundations using hand tools or heavy machinery; perform underpinning, block flooring, and piling.
Drainage and Pipework: Install temporary and permanent drainage systems; connect pipes to existing water and sewage networks; manage tunnelling and shaft-sinking solutions.
Construction Site Setup: Mark construction areas with string lines; set up safety barriers, signage, pathways, and site huts.
Concreting and Paving: Lay pavements, driveways, kerbs, footpaths, and other foundation structures.
Final Landscaping and Finishing: Clean up the site post-construction; install car parks, footpaths, and driveways; ensure the area is safe and presentable for use.
Operate a variety of machinery, including excavators, compactors, and concrete mixers

Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating plant machinery (e.g., excavators, dumper trucks, rollers); ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Personal Attributes: Strong problem-solving, basic numeracy, physical fitness, teamwork, and a proactive work ethic.
Certifications: Valid CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme); CPCS card (for plant operation); NRSWA (National Roads and Street Works Authority) ticket is often required.
Education: Entry routes include Level 1 Certificate in Groundworks, Level 2 NVQ Diploma, or apprenticeships.
