Overview


We are seeking a skilled and versatile Handy Man to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of skills and experience in various maintenance and repair tasks. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently, demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities, and provide exceptional customer service. The Handy Man will be responsible for ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Job Title:

Handyman / Maintenance Operative

Main Purpose of Job:

To maintain our properties to a high standard and respond to general repair needs across our settings.

Responsible to:

CFO

Key Responsibilities :

1. Carry out day-to-day maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, electrical, plastering, painting) to ensure all equipment, fixtures, and fittings are functional and safe.

2. Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and safe manner, ensuring minimal disruption to clients daily activities.

3. Perform outdoor maintenance, including garden care, lawn mowing, pruning, and general upkeep to ensure the property and surrounding areas remain in good condition.

4. Conduct routine inspections of the properties to check for wear and tear, report any hazards, defects, or required repairs promptly to prevent accidents or further damage.

5. Assemble furniture and fit fixtures when needed, ensuring all installations are secure, properly functioning, and meet safety standards.

6. Maintain accurate records of all work completed including repair logs, inventory usage, and any materials or parts ordered. Report directly to the line manager on progress and updates.

7. Ensure all tools and equipment are used safely and stored appropriately, following all safety regulations and maintaining cleanliness in work areas.

8. Work in accordance with health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection guidelines to protect both clients and staff from potential risks and hazards.

9. Build respectful and professional relationships with clients and staff, ensuring a positive experience during maintenance visits and working cooperatively with other team members.

10. Assist with emergency repairs or unplanned maintenance requests, ensuring prompt response and resolution of issues that affect the safety or comfort of the client.

11. Monitor and maintain the condition of building systems, including heating, lighting, and security, to ensure they are operating efficiently and safely.

12. Support in the preparation of properties for new clients , including cleaning, repairing, and ensuring all amenities are in working order before move-in.

13. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to building maintenance and safety, including certifications for gas, electrical, and fire safety systems.

14. Work collaboratively with external contractors, when required, ensuring work is carried out to the necessary standards and within agreed timelines.

15. Maintain flexibility in working hours to accommodate urgent repairs or scheduled preventative maintenance tasks that may fall outside of regular working hours.

16. Contribute to overall property upkeep strategies, providing input on improvements, upgrades, or preventive measures that could reduce maintenance needs in the future.

17. Ensure the confidentiality of clients or information, adhering to data protection laws and safeguarding standards.

18. Carry out routine fire alarm testing and checks.

19. Drive clients' vehicles if needed (subject to appropriate licence and policy).

20. Perform any other duties consistent with the nature and responsibilities of the role.

Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience in a general maintenance role.

Ability to carry out minor repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.

Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Friendly and professional communication skills, especially around vulnerable adults.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Good communication skills, especially in dealing with clients and staff.

Relevant certifications (e.g., Health and Safety at work, manual handling, asbestos awareness', first aid ) are an advantage

A full UK driving licence (essential if driving company or client vehicles).

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: 15.00-17.70 per hour

Expected hours: 38 per week
