The Pipers' Tryst is a unique restaurant with rooms, located within The National Piping Centre in Glasgow. Known for warm Scottish hospitality and a focus on fresh, locally sourced produce, we offer classic, hearty fare with a modern twist - from breakfast and lunch service to private events and weddings. We are now seeking a passionate and experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and uphold our reputation for quality and consistency.
Job Overview
As Head Chef, you will take ownership of our kitchen operations, driving high standards in food production, team development, and customer satisfaction. You will have a key role in shaping seasonal menus that reflect our Scottish identity while meeting the needs of a wide range of guests - from locals and tourists to wedding parties and pipers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of the kitchen including preparation, cooking, and plating, ensuring timely and high-quality service.
Design and deliver menus that showcase fresh, local ingredients and reflect the character of The Pipers' Tryst.
Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health & safety, and allergen regulations at all times.
Recruit, train, and inspire a small but dedicated kitchen team, creating a positive and supportive working environment.
Manage kitchen stock, ordering, and supplier relationships to ensure efficiency and minimal waste.
Collaborate with front-of-house and events staff to deliver excellent customer experiences, including for weddings and private functions.
Monitor food margins and cost controls to maintain profitability without compromising quality.
Person Specification
Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a high-quality kitchen environment.
A passion for Scottish ingredients and hospitality, with creative flair in menu development.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with a hands-on approach to managing people and service.
Excellent knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene best practices.
Ability to thrive in a busy service environment, with strong organisational and time management skills.
Experience with functions and events catering is desirable.
