Role Overview
A unique opportunity to lead the insurance strategy for the UK and European operations of JD Group, a high-performing multinational retailer. This senior role is responsible for setting and overseeing the corporate insurance and claims management strategy, ensuring a risk-informed, cost-optimised approach that supports business resilience and growth. The successful candidate will bring expertise in insurance markets, including captives and alternative risk transfer, and will work closely with external brokers and internal stakeholders to deliver innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions. As part of the Group Risk leadership team, we're seeking a strategic thinker with commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a track record of delivering value through insurance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead the Group's UK and European corporate insurance strategy, ensuring alignment with risk appetites, business profiles and priorities.
Work closely with colleagues across the Group, including Risk, Business Resilience, Finance, Legal, Technology, Property, Retail Operations and Logistics to identify insurance priorities and solutions.
Collaborate with internal teams to identify and advise on changes to operational approaches that would benefit the Group on insurance related costs, procurement and effectiveness.
Oversee insurance procurement, placement and renewal across the Group's UK and European businesses, and provide oversight, support and guidance across the wider Group.
Work closely with the Group's North American Insurance team to collaborate and share best practice.
Evaluate and, where appropriate, implement alternative risk transfer mechanisms, including captives and self-insurance structures alongside traditional insurance placements.
Oversee the claims processes for the Group's UK and European based businesses and provide oversight, support and guidance across the wider Group.
Monitor and provide insight and guidance on emerging risks, market trends, and insurance innovation.
Provide reporting and visibility to the Group's Board and Executive Leadership team on insurance strategy and performance across the Group.
Monitor regulatory developments and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance across insurance activities.
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience in leading corporate insurance programmes.
Deep understanding of insurance markets and products, including captives and alternative risk transfer models.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Strategic mindset with strong analytical and commercial acumen.
Desirable Attributes
Passion for finding and delivering solutions.
Proactive engagement of stakeholders to encourage process and behaviour changes.
Relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACII - please state qualification level within application).
