Job Description

The opportunity:

To provide professional guidance and support to employees and managers in matters relating to policies/procedures; employment legislation; employee relations, recruitment, performance management, training and development and organisational design.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:




Employee Relations

Coach and advise managers on employee relations (absence, disciplinary, grievances, performance). Ensure best practices and consistency with company procedures. Contribute to negotiations with employees, unions, and representatives. Review, update, and implement policies.

Performance Management

Advise line managers on performance management. Manage the pay review process.

Recruitment & Selection

Assist in recruiting professional, functional, and managerial roles. Partner with HR Administrator for other roles. Prepare job descriptions, design ads, shortlist candidates, conduct interviews/tests, and handle offer letters.

HR Systems

Partner with HR Administrator to manage HR data and systems. Ensure data integrity, GDPR compliance, and accurate reporting. Monitor absence and provide payroll data. Present HR KPIs to leadership teams.

Talent Management

Partner with HR Administrator for training. Build managerial capability, review talent processes, and design training plans. Identify training needs, design programs, and ensure statutory training. Advise on training issues, drive development programs, and manage NVQ programs.

Health & Wellbeing

Support H&S Cluster Manager on health, safety, and wellbeing. Promote wellbeing and engagement initiatives

Skills, Experience and Qualifications required:



Minimum up to 2 years in a similar HR role Good verbal and written presentation/communication skills Knowledge of current employment law IT Literate in use of Microsoft Office Exposure to a unionised environment is desirable Relevant experience in a similar role Demonstrable good communication and interpersonal skills and evidence of good working relationships internally and possess professional poise when representing the company in front of auditors and visitors Demonstrable evidence of information handling ability and problem-solving skills Ability to organize and plan CIPD qualified ideally level 5 or working towards
