The Role
We are seeking an experienced and confident
Programme Manager
to oversee our programme in Newcastle. Reporting directly to the Senior Management Team, you will act as the key, on-the-ground lead, ensuring the smooth running of the Academy on a day-to-day basis.
This role requires a strong leader who can manage a diverse team of professional coaches and staff, while ensuring the highest levels of satisfaction for players, parents, and partners. A hands-on approach, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellence will be essential. Flexibility will be required, including some evenings and weekends to support matches, trips, and events. Key Responsibilities
Staff & Programme Management
Lead and manage the coaching and support staff team, ensuring professionalism, punctuality, and high standards of delivery.
Oversee and coordinate key operational processes including arrivals, inductions, parent visits, and events.
Ensure policies, standards, and contracts are upheld at all times, maintaining compliance with i2i and University requirements.
Support with the scheduling of training sessions, match fixtures, and programme events.
Monitor staff performance and provide regular feedback, identifying training and development needs.

Welfare
Ensure all players are supported and have access to the right welfare channels, providing a safe and approachable environment.
Act as a first point of contact for welfare concerns, signposting students to appropriate support when needed.
Promote student well-being, safeguarding, and a positive experience both on and off the pitch.
Drive student-athlete retention through a positive academy environment and proactive relationship management.
Education
Liaise closely with University staff to monitor student-athlete attendance and academic performance.
Ensure assignments are completed and submitted on time, and track progress with any retakes or extensions.
Communicate relevant issues to coaches and staff so they can encourage and support players in balancing their football and academic commitments.
Relationships & Communication
Act as the primary point of contact for players, parents, and university partners, resolving issues and ensuring satisfaction.
Support with the recruitment and onboarding of new players/students, working closely with the recruitment team.
Reporting Structure
The Programme Manager will work closely with Bryan Hughes, Head of Academy, to support the effective management and leadership of the football coaching team at Northumbria University. The Programme Manager will act as a key point of coordination between the Head of Academy and the coaching staff, ensuring alignment with the Academy's philosophy, standards, and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Head of Academy in the day-to-day management and leadership of the football coaching team at Northumbria.
Ensure coaching delivery is consistent with the Academy's philosophy, values, and performance standards.
Provide operational oversight and guidance to coaching staff to maintain a high-performance environment.
Assist with the implementation of training programmes, match preparation, and player development initiatives as directed by the Head of Academy.
What We're Looking For
Significant experience in operations or programme management, ideally in a sports, education, or student-focused environment.
Proven leadership skills with the confidence to manage staff from a variety of backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with young people and their parents.
Excellent organisational ability and attention to detail.
Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Educated to degree level (preferred).
Confident IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office essential.
An active interest in sport, specifically football, would be desirable.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Contract & Benefits
Full-time, permanent contract (37.5 hours per week)
25 days annual leave + bank holidays
Salary: 30,000 - 40,000 (dependent on experience, in line with senior operations roles in the sports/education sector)
Travel primarily within Newcastle, with occasional meetings in York, Leeds, or other sites as required
