Hours: Part-Time, 0.8FTE

Salary: circa \xc2\xa365,000

Location: Hybrid working location with flexible working patterns available

Contract: 12 Months Fixed-Term Contract

Charity People is delighted to be partnering with Breaking Barriers; a specialist refugee employee charity that works to enable refuges to build new lives, step by step. Joining the organisation at a hugely exciting time as the launch a new public fundraising strategy, the interim Director of Communications and Engagement is a key position within the SLT. Reporting to the CEO, you\xe2\x80\x99ll lead on the strategic development and delivery of communications and marketing at the charity, ensuring that the organisation\xe2\x80\x99s reach and reputation is strengthened and protected through clearly articulated communications to all stakeholders at regional and national level.

A highly strategic role, as interim Director of Communications and Engagement your core remit will be as follows:

  • Lead and oversee the development of the new communications and engagement strategy that will support the organisational goal of building a bigger and voice, and work to ensure this is embedded internally
  • Work closely with the Director of Development and the Head of Public Fundraising, on a new public fundraising strategy, ensuring it\xe2\x80\x99s embedded into the organisation\xe2\x80\x99s brand and communications activity
  • Lead and oversee the matrix management of the research and insight strategy, working closely with an internal working group to deliver audience-relevant research and insight
  • Work closely with the Senior Communications Manager to implement and deliver key communications outputs including the organisations new PR and media strategy; its content and storytelling strategy; and digital marketing strategy
  • Work closely with the Senior Digital Marketing Manager to create and implement accurate, timely and effective communications and engagement reporting frameworks at all levels
  • Oversee all Research and Insights strategy outputs to ensure Breaking Barriers is established as the leading specialist refugee employment charity, ensuring that the charity remains politically neutral, but is not afraid to robustly question and challenge to help shape future policy and funding and create long-term systemic change
  • Lead on organisational reputation management, including crisis and reactive communications risk assessment, planning, and providing communications advice and support; media training; spokesperson advice, and support; and acting as an organisational spokesperson where applicable.
  • Work closely with the People team, to deliver Breaking Barriers internal communications
  • Lead a communications team of three, including direct management of a Senior Communications Manager and Senior Digital Marketing Manager, as well as other freelancers and agencies as required
  • Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Communications and Engagement budget
  • Model a creative, ambitious, and positive culture within the Communications team, championing the organisations core values of being welcoming, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and mission led.
  • Contribute and be an active member of the Breaking Barriers Senior Leadership team, working collaboratively across business planning and strategy to help the organisation achieve its 2030 goals.
We\xe2\x80\x99d love to receive applications from people with proven success in implementing digital marketing strategies to harness the power of digital communication and social media, along with experience working across a range of communications channels. You\xe2\x80\x99ll have considerable experience of implementing successful integrated marketing and communications strategies; as well as strong strategic planning skills with the ability to work across multiple stakeholders and ensure communications is integrated, streamlined and consistent.

In addition, we\xe2\x80\x99re very keen to speak to people who have significant experience in leading large creative communications campaigns and utilising both person-centred storytelling techniques and communicating complex data, research, and insights to engage key target audiences. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also have a demonstrable understanding PR and media work, outstanding interpersonal skills; an innovative, proactive and can-do attitude; the ability to work with small budgets, and a strong ability to lead, inspire and develop an ambitious and high performing team.

It\xe2\x80\x99s not essential that you have experience of working within the refugee sector, although you will ideally have extensive leadership experience, ideally within a purpose-driven environment.
