The Role
We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented
Junior Design Engineer
to join our engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for a college leaver (or someone looking for a career change) to start a hands-on career in mechanical design and manufacturing.
As part of this role, you will receive both on-the-job training at our facility with the option to upskill through a recognised qualifying body.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in creating 2D and 3D CAD drawings for components and fabrications.
Work closely with experienced engineers to convert concepts into detailed manufacturing drawings.
Support with technical documentation including bills of materials (BOMs) and design updates.
Use off-line programming software to program machinery throughout the facility.
Help resolve design or production issues by liaising with workshop staff.
Take measurements and assist in developing prototypes or modifications.
Learn to use industry-standard software and tools (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Gain an understanding of materials, tolerances, and fabrication processes including laser cutting, forming, and welding.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Formal qualification in a related subject within Design, Engineering or Manufacturing.
A genuine interest in engineering, design, or manufacturing.
Good numeracy and problem-solving.
Willingness to learn CAD software and technical drawing standards.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
Strong active listening skill and the ability to ask questions.
Teamworking is essential.
Reliability, enthusiasm, and a proactive attitude.
Must have own transport for commute. (No bus routes etc).
Desirable (but not essential):
Familiarity with any CAD software (e.g. from school, college, or personal projects).
Hands-on experience with practical or workshop tasks.
Awareness of manufacturing or metalworking processes.
