Role Overview





?As a Lab operations assistant you will split your time between laboratory support tasks (replenishing consumables, cleaning and maintenance) and operational/administrative tasks (receiving deliveries, packing and shipping goods, maintaining records). Youll work under the supervision of the Operations Manager, and collaborate with all teams. The role requires good attention to detail, a hands-on approach, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a busy environment.



Key Responsibilities




Laboratory Support




Replenish lab consumables and stock (e.g., reagents, glassware, plastics, chemicals) and maintain inventory records. Clean, sterilise and maintain laboratory glassware, equipment surfaces and work areas, ensuring the lab remains tidy and safe. Assist with general lab upkeep: disposing of waste (including chemical/hazardous waste where appropriate and as trained), restocking, checking expiry dates, labelling reagents/solutions. Support the tracking of equipment status, report any faults or maintenance needs. Adhere to laboratory safety procedures, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain compliance with health & safety standards.

Operational / Logistics Support




Receive deliveries of goods, inspect and log incoming shipments, unpack and store items in the appropriate location. Pack and ship outgoing orders *ensure correct contents and labelling, coordinate with courier/transport where required.
Maintain orderliness of storage/stock areas, ensure goods are stored in correct conditions (including chemical storage if overlaps). Assist with stock-taking, inventory reconciliation and raising purchase requisitions for materials that are low or out of stock. Provide administrative support: maintain accurate records (lab consumables, incoming/outgoing shipments, stock movements) Assist with booking travel arrangements for staff (e.g. transport, accommodation, or conference logistics) as needed. Support ad-hoc operational tasks as needed (e.g., assist with internal moves, assist other teams with logistical support, help with simple maintenance or housekeeping tasks in operational areas).

Person Specification




Essential




A keen interest in laboratory work, science or operations; willingness to work in a hands-on environment. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Good communication skills; ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions carefully. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a mixed environment. Comfortable with physical tasks (handling goods/boxes, moving stock) and maintaining cleanliness and order in work?areas. PC skills: familiarity with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Excel/Word), and comfortable with data entry.

Desirable




Previous experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, shipping/receiving packages Awareness of good laboratory practice (GLP) and/or health & safety in laboratory/industrial settings. Experience with shipping documentation or stock-control systems. A qualification in a science or operational discipline (e.g., A-Levels in science subjects, BTEC, or equivalent vocational qualification). Driving license (Full, clean)
