Role Summary



GDAS are recruiting for a Learning and Practice Lead to join the Learning and Practice team, who can spark curiosity, build confidence, and make learning stick. You'll bring a professional knowledge of substance use, ideally enriched by lived experience, and use this to inform training that's practical, engaging, and impactful.

Your role will deliver in-house, and externally focussed training programmes that strengthen awareness, reduce stigma, and create better outcomes for individuals and communities.

A driving license is essential

Gwent Drug and Alcohol service provides support to individuals affected by substance use across all 5 local authorities of Gwent.

GDAS is delivered in consortium with 3 of Wales largest substance misuse providers; Kaleidoscope, Barod and G4S.

Role Profile & Responsibilities



Develop and Deliver the Internal GDAS Learning and Practice Programme:



Shape and deliver an induction programme that adequately prepares new members of GDAS staff for the unique challenges that come with working for a substance use service. Lead on the delivery of the core components of the Workforce Development Programme, including Substance Use Awareness and Safeguarding. With the support of the Learning and Practice Manager, prepare new programmes of training and development and refine existing programmes in response to the evolving needs of the GDAS Workforce. Create and deliver learning experiences supporting capability frameworks, in line with a ready> set> go> show model. Train and support GDAS Keyworkers through training programmes that are designed to improve the cognitive, social and emotional functioning of people who have experienced trauma. Support the Learning and Practice team to upskill GDAS workers to deliver psychosocial interventions for substance misuse through a 3-stage process of training, practice observation and constructive feedback. Provide support and guidance to GDAS staff outside the Learning and Practice Team who are involved in planning, preparing and delivering aspects of the GDAS Workforce Development Programme. Support staff well-being through reflective practice sessions, such as Group supervision and Action Learning. Creating psychologically informed safe spaces where frontline staff can reflect on practice, learn and grow from experiences, and support one another. Use a range of workplace coaching and mentoring approaches to nurture and develop staff capabilities in line with a structured framework. Keep abreast of latest developments in technologies and tools to ensure that the L and P Team stays ahead with real-time, blended, and anytime learning opportunities. Engage with local and national public health initiatives as directed, including the delivery of Connect 5 mental well-being promotion training to the GDAS workforce. Support the work of Gwent Safeguarding through the delivery of safeguarding training and membership of the Gwent Safeguarding Learning and Development subgroup.

Co-ordinate and Deliver the external Training Offer:



Provide a range of training and consultancy services to Tier 1 professionals like Social Workers and Nurses, including general Substance Misuse Awareness courses and more targeted training in the utilisation of AUDIT and Brief Interventions.

Multi-team and Agency working:



Build strong professional relationships with GDAS staff in all tiers of management, being a critical friend when needed, to ensure that the GDAS management team and the GDAS Learning and Practice team are working collaboratively and harmoniously towards achieving excellence at an individual, team and service level.

Quality Assurance:



Provide Assessor and Internal Quality Assurance Roles (training provided) as needed for our Agored accredited programmes. Support the Senior Management Team and Quality and Audit Lead to deliver a comprehensive and responsive internal quality assurance approach. With the support of the GDAS Data Manager utilise performance data to objectively assess performance at an individual, team and service level, and encourage GDAS staff to use their Dashboard reports to both identify areas for development and measure future improvements. Support GDAS Co-production Lead in the delivery and implementation of peer-led volunteer projects that adhere to WG's ladder of participation, putting GDAS service users at the heart of service design, delivery and review of what we do. This will include tailoring our pathways and processes to enable service users to participate. Provide quarterly and ad-hoc reports to the GDAS Head of Operations and GDAS Head of Learning and Practice when required Ensure timely, professional and accurate recording keeping. Work within agreed policies, procedures and protocols to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.

Other:



Communicate host organisation and GDAS vision and deliver upon mission, corporate strategy and business plans. Take up arrangements for supervision and support and participate in all relevant internal meetings. Undertake other reasonable duties as requested but which may not be specified within the job description.

Pay: From 28,560.00 per year
