The role of the Learning Support Assistant will involve working directly with people aged 16-22 participating on the Skills for Life and Work, Training for Success and/or Apprenticeships NI Programme. The role will require administrative duties to ensure records of support are accurate, completed and returned in good time.

Hours of work: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 9.30am to 4pm (21 hours per week)

Length of contract: until August 2024

Core Responsibilities ...

  • Provide direct one-to-one and group-based disability support to an agreed schedule of activities.
  • Support the tutor by delivering the appropriate disability specialist learning support for the participant.
  • Assist the DSS (Disability Support Services) Co-ordinator with the monitoring and evidencing of progress against Performance Targets set.
  • Stimulate and promote effective, independent learning strategies for the young person to enable them to participate and build their motivation and self-esteem.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records that support effective ongoing monitoring and review of own support provided and raise any immediate issues or concerns with line manager
Note: You won\'t be doing any teaching or programme delivery yourself - you will be providing additional disability support.

The Ideal Candidate...
  • Experience of working with young people across a wide-section of varying levels of needs
  • Highly organised with evidence of building trusting relationships with participants
  • Good skills in ICT, including MS Office Suit
  • Educated to NVQ Level or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage varying demands of the role
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Excellent time management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to display an awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children, young people and adults
