Job purpose

The Marketing and Communications Officer is primarily responsible for OPF's external engagement, with a focus on the Digital Preservation community at large, and associated communities such as those relating to Libraries, Archives and other memory organisations. They are also responsible for branding, marketing collateral and (social) media channels, producing content where necessary. They have the option to become involved in OPF projects if their skills and interests match requirements.

Responsibilities

You will work closely with the Executive Director to:

Marketing

Maintain/update brand guidelines and ensure consistent look, feel and tone of voice across OPF channels and communications Act as first point-of-contact for queries Source and produce physical marketing collateral (card, brochures, merchandise etc.) including design and copy Work with Administrative Officer to manage relationships with external suppliers Compile quarterly newsletter Report on marketing content, using analytics to monitor the success of our campaigns Liaise with external organisations and projects on joint or supportive campaigns
Communications

Source and produce produce content for OPF's digital and physical channels with a focus on outreach and recruitment (supported by other OPF staff as required) Oversee OPFs channel strategy and ensure content is disseminated effectively, including social media, mailing lists, public website, conference and presentation opportunities Monitor members and external organisations for news, updates, major changes etc. that might inform OPF activities Report on communications to the board, using analytics to monitor the success of our campaigns
Membership

Support the Community and Content Officer (CCO) with membership recruitment and engagement activities Work with CCO on broader community engagement activities
Events

Support the planning and delivery of OPF events (AGMs, workshops, training) Support the webinar series (set up registration, edit recording/captions and publish)
General

Contribute expertise to internal and external projects as required, maintaining and related OPF project content Support other OPF staff as needed Participate in, and support, recruitment processes and ongoing professional development
The Marketing and Communications Officer may be asked to undertake other duties in support of the work of the organisation as requested by the Executive Director.

Skills & Experience

As Marketing and Communications Officer you will have:

One year's experience in a similar role. A degree or professional accreditation, or demonstrable equivalent professional knowledge and skills. Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills and a keen eye for detail. Experience implementing multi-channel communications plans. Experience writing different content, such as press releases, blogs, newsletters and social media posts. A proven track record of implementing brand guidelines and tone-of-voice. Layout and design experience using programmes such as Canva, or similar packages. Proficiency in Google GSuite, or similar (e.g. Microsoft Office). Experience working with marketing analytics and reporting. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage relationships and work as part of a remote team. Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Ability to work proactively and with a high degree of autonomy. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK or EU.
Desirable

Knowledge of relevant communities such as libraries, archives, digital preservation and open source. Experience of organising online and in-person events. Experience of preparing materials for events, including reports, presentations, and training materials. Experience of working in a not-for-profit, membership, and/or international organisation. Research and analysis skills, including the ability to identify training needs. Basic video editing skills. Additional language skills.
