Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanic/narrow boat engineer with skills and experience to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate ideally professionally qualified, but not essential as level of skills experience and understanding will be confirmed at any interview. Candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of machinery including narrow boat marine diesel engines/ gearboxes and occasional petrol engines, to ensure optimal operational efficiency.

Knowledge and experience of 240 volt ac/dc systems essential, as nearly all narrow boats have these systems. Knowledge of diesel heating systems useful, ie Webasto or Eberspacher diesel fired heaters and associated plumbing, occasional Reflex diesel fired stoves. Experience not essential as training can be offered.

This role offers an excellent full time opportunity for an individual male or female to make their own mark on this role and develop this with help, into a fully fledged and trusted marine engineer, with a passion for technical work and problem-solving. Candidate must be committed at all times to maintaining high standards of safety and quality while working unsupervised.

Candidate must be able to be self motivated, work in a tidy and logical manner, respecting owners boats at all times. Must have the ability to identify faults or issues and bring these to the attention of the yard Manager immediately, so the customer can be contacted and advised of additional costs before additional work is carried out. Narrow boat terminology can quickly be learnt if not already present. Candidate must be able to keep accurate daily records of time taken on individual jobs, important for the manager to be able to correctly invoice customers.

Responsibilities



Conduct routine inspections, servicing and preventative maintenance on engines. machinery and equipment. Diagnose faults accurately using diagnostic tools and techniques. Repair or replace faulty components, ensuring minimal downtime. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and repairs undertaken and repair time taken on specific jobs. Assist in the installation of new and used equipment and machinery. Work efficiently at all times, to get jobs completed quickly while maintaining high levels of quality and service. Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times during maintenance procedures. Collaborate with other team members to optimise operational performance.. Keep work areas clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards.

Experience



Proven experience as a mechanic/ marine engineer, or similar technical maintenance role with transferable skills, required is full understanding of engine and engine maintenance. Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams effectively Familiarity with diagnostic tools and repair equipment Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, self motivate, encourage other employees and work efficiently unsupervised.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 28,500.00-35,000.00 per year
