We are seeking a skilled cook to join our nursery team. The ideal candidate will be able to work on their own inititative, but also be a good communicator, able to liaise positively with management, and with the staff teams around the nursery.
There is some flexibility with hours, but hours worked will be between 9am and 3pm, all year round.
The job role is to organise and prepare a healthy balanced diet for children aged 0 -11 years, ensuring allergies, intolerances and other specific food related food avoidances are adhered to and catered for.
The cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals in accordance with our nursery's standards, which include offering healthy, high quality meals, with consideration to environmental sustainability.
This role requires a passion for food, creativity in meal preparation, and a commitment to maintaining food safety and hygiene standards. An excellent understanding of allergens and other dietary requirements is important.
We aim to provide a wide variety of tastes and textures, to support the development of positive attitudes to food and healthy eating, so our ideal cook would be able to ehthusiatically support this.
Responsibilities
Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, initially according to established recipes and menu specifications, but later with the option to create varied seasonal menus.
Plan meals, ensuring ingredients are fresh and high quality, including using locally sourced ingredients, and seasonal crops including those grown on site.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including food ordering, proper storage and stock rotation of food items.
Adhere to food safety regulations and hygiene standards at all times.
Collaborate with other staff to ensure efficiency and effective management of special dietary requirements during busy service periods. Monitor food stock levels and order supplies as needed.
Skills
Previous experience in meal preparation, including working to specific time limits, would be beneficial.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation, as well as a positive outlook and interactions with others.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.
Able to liaise effectively with management regarding government guidelines and working within the ethos of our setting.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated and able to cope with working independently for a large portion of the day.
Flexibility to adapt to changing menus and dietary requirements as needed.
Ability to manage allergens and allergen coding on menus efficiently.
Ability to follow procedures.
Ability to work with feedback from other teams within the setting, and incorporate theseinto future menus.
Confidence to answer questions regarding food where needed.
