Salary: 26000-30000



Term Time Only



Monday to Thursday: 8 am - 4.30 pm; Friday: 8 am -1.30 pm

Purpose of the job:



To work as a key person and as part of the Nursery team under the direction of the Principal and Manager. To provide safe, high-quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting.

Main duties:



1. To assist with the planning of the curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.

2. To help set up the hall for the daily programme both in the morning and at lunch time for afternoon school. To help tidy away at the end of each session.

3. To act as a key person to a small group of children aged between 2-3yrs in the morning session and support the learning of the children staying for the afternoon session; liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.

4. To monitor and track each child within the EYFS and produce an electronic learning journal through the Arc Pathway programme as evidence for each learning intention met. These are to be updated regularly.

5. To demonstrate how you will cater for each individual child extending and supporting their learning where needed.

6. To complete all the necessary paperwork concerning your key children and their development.

7. To take part in parent teacher meetings twice a year to discuss the progress of your key children

8. Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.

9. To advise the Manager or Principal of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

10. Strive to safeguard children by working to the organisation's safeguarding code of conduct.

11. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.

12. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.

13. To support lunch time duties within the setting.

14. To provide outdoor learning experiences for your key children alongside other practitioners.

15. To actively participate at team meetings, supervision meetings and appraisal meetings.

16. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your development.

17. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job.

18. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting's operational policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, promoting positive behaviour, first aid, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting etc.

19. To promote the nursery to current parents and potential parents.

20. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by Manager or Principal, in accordance with the setting's business plan/objectives.

Essential criteria:



1. Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.

2. Willingness to learn.

3. Previous experience of working with young children.

4. Sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years.

5. Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

6. Knowledge of child protection procedures.

7. Good communication skills.

8. An understanding of play-based approaches to children's learning and development.

9. Commitment to equal opportunities.

10. Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.

11. Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
