Job Overview



As an Occupational Health Physician, you will deliver expert medical care and evidence-based advice for employees across diverse organisations--ranging from private industry and public services to SMEs and large multinational clients. You'll play a vital role in promoting workforce health, managing risk, and enabling safe, well-supported return to work.

This role will include regular weekly site visits to our clients across the Hereford and Worcester area, and will be required to work at times between 8am and 8pm, between Monday and friday.

Responsibilities



Provide fitness-for-work assessments and pre-placement medicals to determine suitability for specific roles, recommending reasonable adjustments where needed. Lead health surveillance programmes for employees exposed to occupational hazards such as noise, vibration, respiratory risks and biological agents. Manage complex clinical cases referred by Occupational Health Advisors or Technicians, including advising on ill-health retirement and long-term sickness absence. Offer clinical leadership, supporting and training other OH professionals and contributing to service modernisation, quality standards and governance. Conduct workplace visits to evaluate physical and psychological working environments, offering evidence-based recommendations to minimise health risks. Draft comprehensive medical reports, participate in case conferences, and support absence and performance-related reviews. Advise clients on compliance with UK legislation (e.g. HSE, DWP, Reporting of Injuries, Diseases & Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) and best practice in occupational health management.

Required Skills & Experience



Full registration with the GMC; ideally a Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (MFOM or FFOM), or equivalent, and with a Diploma in Occupational Medicine (DOccMed) Proven experience in occupational health within both public and private sectors, particularly engaging with safety-critical industries or large organisations. Excellent diagnostic capability and ability to manage clinical complexity through a bio?psycho?social perspective. Strong interpersonal and communication skills: influencing senior stakeholders, engaging empathetically with patients, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. Competence in health policy, occupational law and regulatory frameworks, including fitness-for-work, disability legislation, and health promotion. Excellent organisational ability, with experience in programme audit, quality improvement and service delivery planning.
