Job Purpose
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, and ensuring smooth financial operations within the business. A key part of this role will be managing all accounts through Sage Line 50 Accounting Software.
Duties
Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions (sales, purchases, receipts, payments) using Sage.
Process supplier invoices, credit notes, and staff expense claims.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and petty cash within Sage.
Manage accounts payable and receivable ledgers, ensuring timely payments and collections.
Prepare and submit VAT returns through Sage in compliance with HMRC requirements.
Generate and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
Support payroll processing, pension contributions, and employee expense reimbursements.
Monitor cash flow and provide financial updates to management.
Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal teams regarding invoicing and payment queries.
Ensure compliance with company policies, financial procedures, and statutory requirements.
Assist auditors with year-end accounts and financial statements.
Skills and Requirements
Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar finance role (construction/fit-out / joinery experience desirable).
Strong proficiency with Sage Accounting Software and Sage Payroll.
Sound knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT regulations.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Strong communication skills for liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, staff and clients.
Qualifications
AAT qualification (desirable but not essential).
Relevant bookkeeping/accounting experience is equally valued.
Working Hours:
5 hours a day Monday - Friday, (with flexibility as required).
Location: Holloway, Islington.
Report To: Directors.
