Blackwater Academy is an alternative provision school, established in 2015 in Birmingham. Our main objective is to empower the young, nurturing their individual talent and building upon their strengths with a view to also helping families and the wider community. Growth and success have led to a second location in Tipton, and a third in Stourbridge.

We are proactive in ensuring the involvement from parents and carers and we promote when it is suitable, reintegration into mainstream education, Learners moving onto further education and employment are regularly achieved.

One to One Tutor

Hours: 8:00-4:00 Monday to Friday (Term time only)

Pay: 25,000.00-27,000.00 per year

Do you have experience teaching children with Special Educational Needs? Would you be interested in working as part of a collaborative team, committed to providing the best access to education for our young people?

Students: Our provision caters for students who have not succeeded in mainstream education. This could be due to behaviour, SEND or children who suffer with mental health.

Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Learning Mentor dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Blackwater Academy is looking for committed Learning Mentor to work offsite with our SEND and SEMH learners.

Role Overview:



As a One to One Tutor you will play a vital role in supporting students with additional needs who are not currently in the school building. You will facilitate learning episodes in Maths, English and Science, build strong communication and rapport with students to boost their self-confidence, and create a safe and stimulating learning environment. Your support will be crucial in helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Duties include assisting during breaks and lunches, preparing resources, and working closely with teachers and SEN coordinators to ensure students receive the best possible support. This is a highly rewarding role where you will truly make a difference in our students' educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:



Build positive and trusting relationships with students to support their emotional and academic development. Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs. Assist in the development and implementation of personalised learning plans. Support students in managing their behaviour and emotions within a structured learning environment. Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities. Help students develop essential social and life skills to aid their overall personal growth. Always uphold school policies and safeguarding procedures.

What We're Looking For:



Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEND/SEMH needs. A compassionate and patient approach with excellent interpersonal skills. Strong ability to motivate and inspire students who may face challenges in education. Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures. A proactive and adaptable attitude to meet the diverse needs of students. Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or support work are desirable but not essential.
