Job Description

Position Overview:



We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Person to join our team at Graceland Nursing Home. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our Full Time Mainstenance Staff in maintaining the care home's building, equipment, furniture, and external areas to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This role requires a proactive individual with practical maintenance experience and basic skills in areas such as joinery, plumbing, and electrical work. Additionally, the role involves driving the care home's minibus for resident appointments and outings.

Key Responsibilities:



Building Maintenance & Repairs:



Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on the building, furniture, and equipment. Identify and address potential maintenance issues promptly to prevent larger problems. Maintain accurate, legible maintenance schedules and records.

Liaison with External Tradespersons:



Coordinate and liaise with external tradespersons visiting the site to carry out specialised maintenance or repairs. Monitor and ensure the quality of work performed by external contractors. Assist in the implementation of maintenance policies and procedures.

Health & Safety:



Assist with periodic health and safety checks, including testing of equipment, fire safety systems, and emergency lighting. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the care home. Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and all other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.

External Area Maintenance:



Maintain external areas, including gardens, pathways, and car parks, ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-presented. Conduct seasonal tasks such as salting pathways in winter and general garden upkeep. Perform snow removal and other ground duties as required.

Minibus Operation:



Drive the care home's minibus to transport residents to appointments, activities, and outings. Ensure the minibus is clean, safe, and maintained in good working order. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and usage.

General Duties:



Maintain a schedule of planned and reactive maintenance tasks. Respond to urgent maintenance requests promptly and effectively. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and liaise with the Care Home Manager regarding ongoing needs. Assist in the collation of performance indicator data/evidence where necessary.

Qualifications & Skills:



Experience:

Previous experience in a maintenance or handyman role is essential.

Technical Skills:

Basic knowledge and skills in joinery, plumbing, and electrical work.

Health & Safety:

Awareness of health and safety standards and regulations.

Driving:

A valid driving license is essential; experience driving larger vehicles such as minibuses is desirable.

Personal Attributes:



Proactive and able to work independently. Excellent problem-solving skills. Strong communication and organisational abilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external contractors.

A commitment to maintaining the comfort, safety, and well-being of our residents. Willingness to undergo a Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups. Flexibility to occasionally work outside of standard hours for urgent maintenance needs. Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety/Fire/EHO issues.
Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From 13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 - 24 per week
