Job Overview



We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee and manage the payroll function within our childcare organization. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of staff salaries, statutory payments, compliance with employment and childcare industry regulations, and maintaining efficient payroll systems to support our growing workforce. This role requires strong organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Duties



Manage the end-to-end payroll process for all employees, including full-time, part-time, and casual childcare staff.

Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, pension schemes, childcare sector regulations, and employment laws.Process statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP) accurately and in line with government requirements.Administer auto-enrolment pension contributions, deductions, and reconciliations.

Maintain accurate payroll records, including timesheets, holiday pay, overtime, and allowances.

Prepare and distribute payslips, P45s, P60s, and year-end reports.

Handle payroll queries from employees and provide timely resolutions.

Work closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure data integrity and alignment with employment contracts.

Produce payroll-related reports for management, budgeting, and audits.

Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and childcare workforce regulations.

Qualifications



Proven experience as a Payroll Manager or in a senior payroll role, ideally within the childcare, education, or care services sector.

In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pension auto-enrolment.

Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.

Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage, BrightPay, Xero Payroll, or similar) and MS Excel.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with staff and external stakeholders.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 40,000.00 per year
