We are immediately hiring for an experienced and tenacious Payroll Manager to lead our dedicated in-house function, based from our York office with the flexibility of our hybrid working model. A critical role within the HR Operations team, the Payroll Manager will lead the running of the Payroll function, with responsibility for the preparation, calculation and processing of the monthly payrolls, pensions and benefits for circa 1,000+ employees. Ensuring compliance with UK and Ireland tax, payroll and pension legislation, you will also provide advice and guidance on all current payroll and tax rules and regulations, as well as interpret and advise on new legislation.

You will be processing the payrolls using ADP iHCM system, liaising closely with the HR Operations team to ensure the feed of pay-related transactions from the HRIS (IFS 10) and other systems is completed accurately and in a timely manner. You do not need to be an experienced ADP system user but this would be advantageous.

The post holder will manage 1 x Payroll Officer.

Main Duties:

  • Monthly processing of payroll using ADP iHCM
  • Maintenance and updates to ADP iHCM
  • Respond to payroll related queries and manage a dedicated payroll inbox
  • Liaise with and process payroll instructions from the wider HR team
  • Calculating and applying adjustments to normal pay, eg absence and overtime
  • Process statutory notifications and payments
  • Process benefits payments, eg childcare vouchers, cycle scheme, pension contributions
  • Carry out detailed checks to minimise payment errors
  • Create monthly payroll reports for final sign off before processing
  • Manage the month end close process, working closely with the Finance Team
  • PAYE and NI reconciliation
  • Production of payslips
  • Development of ADP iHCM to meet growing business needs
  • Pension processing of several complex schemes, including auto enrolment, using provider portal
  • Liaise with ADP to update iHCM with any legislative and other pay related information
  • Process annual payroll events, eg P60, P11D, pay review, bonus
  • Maintain payroll documentation relating to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Carry out regular reconciliation and audits
  • Support Finance team with audit and data requests
  • Produce detailed reports and analysis of employee data
Experience Required:
  • Experience of running an end to end monthly payroll of a similar size
  • Demonstrable legislative and transactional knowledge, CPP qualified
  • Confidence in working independently, willing to chase / challenge information to ensure accuracy
  • Experience and full understanding of HMRC activities
  • A keen eye for detail, working methodically and accurately
  • Experience of responding to payroll queries, demonstrating excellent technical understanding and strong written and verbal skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload without supervision
  • Aptitude for collating and interpreting data
  • Experience and understanding of working to critical deadlines and with absolute confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with colleagues across the business
  • Confidence to work with HR and Payroll systems to drive continuous improvement
