Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Oxford, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the group of Dr Ricardo A. Fernandes based in the CAMS Oxford Institute. The study will focus on investigating the antigen specificity of brain CD4+ Treg cells using large peptide-MHC libraries, yeast and mammalian selections, flow cytometry, and in vitro functional assays.

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist is primarily responsible for the development, design, and execution of experiments in the project. The aims of this project include (1) to develop suitable peptide-MHC screening platforms, (2) to identify the specificity of candidate T cell receptors (TCRs) involved in recognition of brain cells and modulation of inflammation, (3) to validate findings in vitro and, (4) to share reagents and findings with other members of this consortium. This research could deepen our comprehension of mechanisms through which CD4+ Treg cells control inflammation and may offer insights for improved immunotherapy strategies.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in immunology or a related field, alongside demonstrable experience in culturing and performing in vitro assays with T cells, and generating in vitro CD4+ T cell models to deorphanize novel TCRs. You will also possess relevant specialist knowledge and experience designing, executing and analysing data functional assays.

You must have a proactive and adaptable approach to work and willingness to collaborate and provide scientific and workplace guidance to research assistants and students. Excellent record keeping, careful methodological work skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by Wellcome Discovery Award.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 25 September 2025 will be considered. Please quote
