We are looking for a hands-on and proactive Pre-press Supervisor to lead our studio department during a critical phase of business transformation. As a small but ambitious self-adhesive label manufacturer, we are transitioning from legacy systems and informal processes to a more structured, efficient, and scalable production environment.
Job Summary
Responsible for managing and supervising the Pre-Press department. Maintain smooth operation of procedures and workflow in a timely and accurate manner for the entire department.
Knowledge and understanding of printing theory, including impositions/stepping, trapping, resolution, material characteristics, file manipulation, colour control, printer registration marks, and ID marks for all press ready files.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strong Colour knowledge.
Execution of colour management for digital and flexo.
Identifying and leading the development and implementation of Prepress workflow process improvements and automation along with promoting the use of Packz.
Responsible for devising tracking system of daily work orders in correlation with production schedule and on time delivery to both internal and external customers.
Interacts with other departments.
Read and accurately interpret production orders and printing specifications to process files.
Prepare layouts according to exact work ticket specifications using the proper systems, processes and software programs.
Review electronic files that are received from clients, impose/step as needed and send to Domino and Indigo presses.
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, imposition software, Packz and Esko.
Good understanding of HP Indigo DFE.
Pre-flight PDF files according to printing standards of files to prepare them for print and digital reproduction.
Interact with customer service and other business leaders regarding the status of jobs and problem-solving scenarios.
Maintain consistent communications of project details and scheduled job status with other managers and customer service.
Maintain an updated schedule of jobs for both digital and flexo presses.
Communicate with customer services regarding any problems, questions, concerns regarding electronic file issues.
Maintains customer files. Properly names files and moves merged/old files to the correct account folders.
Help create KPIs and SOPs and drive continued improvement.
The person
- Experience in label printing, flexo and digital.
- Understanding of label die cutting.
- Strong understanding of label stepping, laydowns, separations, grips, dot gain and trapping bleed.
- Excellent understanding of colour management.
- The ability to check press proofs for content and colour consistency.
- The ability to read, analyse, and prioritise production job sheets.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and imposition software
- Good knowledge of Packz by Hybrid Software and Esko (or a similar native pdf editor software) - advantageous.
- Good understanding of HP Indigo DFE & Color Pilot- advantageous.
- A team-based approach to process improvement and problem-solving.
