As a Barclays Production Engineer you will be joining Global Technology Services Management within Technology area. In your new role you will use a hybrid of development and operate skills to collaborate across disciplines, applying software engineering principles to eliminate repeated manual effort (Toil) and create automated, scalable and reliable services.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We\xe2\x80\x99re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances. What will you be doing?

  • Establishing a SRE practice/discipline within Corporate GTSM
  • Driving the agenda throughout the department whilst assisting the wider team objectives
  • Reducing MTTR throughout the department (Mean Time to Repair) and improving stability
  • Being consistently excellent at all we do and helping to drive this mindset throughout the department \xe2\x80\x93 Make everything we touch better
  • Driving Full Stack Observability throughout the department and role model how this can be used to achieve our objectives
  • Driving the adoption of Automation and help to role model how this can be used to drive efficiencies, consistency
  • Reducing MTTR and achieve our objectives
  • Driving technical excellence and accountability/ownership of the full stack that makes up our services
What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:
  • Practical experience of assisting and maintaining production environments with distributed systems and highly available services
  • Working knowledge of IT Infrastructure components (for example Linux or Windows Server OS, MS SQL or Oracle Databases, Networks, Load Balancers, Storage)
  • Practical experience of Observability/Monitoring solutions (such as AppDynamics, Thousand Eyes, Splunk, ELK or similar)
  • Working knowledge of modern programming languages like Java and Python. Understanding of CI/CD Pipelines and Repositories, for example Jenkins and GitHub
Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Solid experience of working in either a SRE or DevOps model would be desirable
  • Exposure to working in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals
  • Exposure to constructing SQL queries and interrogate databases
  • Solid knowledge of software skills such as design, development, maintenance, testing and software improvement
