Our Bristol workshop is expanding rapidly, and we are looking for a
Production Manager / Production Planner
to create and maintain the structured production system that ensures jobs run right, first time, on time, every time.
This is aleadership and control role.
Role Overview:
As the Production Manager / Production Planner, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the workshop production system, ensuring every spool, frame, and assembly moves through fabrication in a controlled, organised, and quality-driven flow.
You will manage:
Planning & scheduling
Resource allocation (who is doing what)
Workflow & bottleneck management
Materials readiness
Drawing control
Job sequencing & daily production briefs
Progress reporting
Next-day readiness
Quality checkpoint integration
Co-ordination between Workshop, QA, Projects, and Supply Chain

:7:00am-5pm (Mon-Thu) & 7:00am-3:00pm (Fri)

Key Responsibilities:
Planning & Scheduling:
Build and maintain theMaster Production Schedule for all projects.
Convert drawings, BOMs, and project plans into a detailed production workflow.
Sequence jobs so cutting, prep, welding, and assembly run in a smooth flow.
Forecast labour demand and allocate people by capability (weld map, skill matrix).
Ensure every job has a clear start date, duration, and completion target.
Daily Operations & Workflow Control:
Lead the 7:00am Morning Production Brief. (who is doing what and why).
Conduct Morning Flow Check: materials, drawings, cut lists, WPS, QA stages.
Prevent welders ever standing without work (remove gaps and bottlenecks)
Monitor progress continually throughout the day and adjust workflow where needed.
Ensure all jobs move through fabrication in the correct sequence.
Materials, Drawings & Readiness:
Check that all drawings issued are correct, latest revision, and fully understood.
Liaise with Supply Chain to verify materials delivered match BOM requirements.
Ensure cutting lists, prep lists, and consumables are prepared ahead of time.
Guarantee next-day readiness every afternoon.
Quality Coordination:
Work with the QA Inspector to ensure stage inspections are completed correctly.
Address quality issues quickly and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Confirm all welders are working to correct WPS, parameters, consumable control.
Ensure all jobs meet Jefferis standards and client requirements before release.
People & Leadership:
Organise and direct the workshop team with clear expectations and structure.
Enforce standards of workmanship, housekeeping, discipline, and communication.
Develop individuals using skill matrices and capability-based planning.

Workshop Control & Efficiency:
Ensure housekeeping audits and workshop checks are completed daily.
Maintain a controlled workshop layout -- tools, equipment, bays, and flow.
Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to productivity and process.
Ensure downtime is minimised and production time is maximised.
Reporting & Coordination:
Update daily dashboards on progress, hours booked, % complete per spool/assembly.
Provide accurate production updates for internal meetings and client reviews.
Coordinate with the Projects Team to confirm priorities, deadlines, and risks.
Track KPI performance across quality, output, efficiency, and delivery.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:
Essential:
Experience in a production management or planning role within fabrication, mechanical, welding, or M&E sectors.
Strong understanding of offsite fabrication workflows (cutting, prep, welding, assembly).
Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, spool sheets, BOMs, and schematics.
Competent in MS Office and scheduling tools (Excel, Monday.com, or similar).
Strong organisational skills (able to maintain structure with multiple live jobs).
Clear leadership presence with the ability to set standards and drive performance.
Strong communication skills.
Desired:
Experience managing coded welders and fabrication teams.
Understanding of WPS/WPQR, welding processes, and QA requirements.
Experience in production planning for stainless & carbon steel pipework.
Knowledge of fabrication tolerances and high-accuracy assemblies.
Prior experience using digital production or QA systems.
