Publisher, New Journals

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

We are delighted to be partnering exclusively with the Society of Chemical Industry in their journey to find a new Publisher for new journals to join their ambitious and growing team. Reporting directly into the Director of Publishing, you will be responsible for spearheading the launches of SCI\'s new open access journals portfolio, managing the whole process from concept to delivery.

We are seeking an ambitious candidate with a strong growth mindset who has experience of launching new STM Open Access journals, with a demonstrated success of developing strategy plans that deliver results. With an entrepreneurial spirit, and confidence using data to make decisions, you will thrive in a target driven environment and relish building relationships with the community around you. The ideal candidate for this role will be confident assembling and managing editorial boards and in particular sourcing Editor in Chiefs. Over time, you will be recruiting, coaching and mentoring editorial staff with SCI\'s vision and the end goal always in mind.

Subject matter knowledge in chemistry, biology or life sciences is highly advantageous for this role; the Society has a particular interest in sustainability and so any experience in commissioning for this topic would be ideal. In addition, experience of open access publishing, editorial strategy, setting targets and managing and reporting budgets will all be crucial. Although not essential, any line management experience would also be beneficial. Strong organisational and planning skills are key to being successful in this role, along with the ability to quickly and effectively problem solve, adapt and make decisions.

You will have a can-do attitude and be able to influence others as well as being a clear communicator who is confident supporting and liaising with various departments, partners and external stakeholders. This is a fantastic opportunity for an excellent self-starter with expert knowledge of the journal workflow and a passion for scientific innovation who really wants to make a change! If this sounds like the next step for you then we would love to hear from you!
