Purchasing Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Chemical Industry

Location: Runcorn, Cheshire, WA7 3DL
Salary: \xc2\xa335 to \xc2\xa340k, DOE + Benefits
Contract: Full time, Permanent

We are seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Purchasing Manager to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in negotiation with suppliers, contract management, problem-solving, and sourcing materials. As a Purchasing Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth procurement of materials, optimizing costs, and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.

The Role:

Supplier Negotiation and Relationship Management:

  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, reliability, cost, and other performance factors.
  • Negotiate favourable terms, conditions, and pricing agreements with suppliers to ensure competitive advantage and cost efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, fostering open communication and collaboration.
  • Monitor supplier performance, resolve any issues or conflicts, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Contract Management:
  • Develop, manage and negotiate contracts of supply with suppliers, ensuring all terms and conditions are clearly defined and compliant with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Monitor contract compliance and address any deviations or disputes with suppliers.
Problem Solving:
  • Proactively identify and resolve procurement-related issues, such as supply shortages, quality concerns, or delivery delays.
  • Investigate and address root causes of problems, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality control, and logistics, to resolve operational challenges.
Material Sourcing:
  • Identify potential suppliers, new materials, and emerging trends in the chemical industry.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, capacities, and qualifications to determine suitability for specific material requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a robust supplier network to ensure a diverse and reliable supply chain.
  • Continuously monitor price fluctuations and availability, to make informed sourcing decisions.
CIPS Qualifications:
  • Leverage CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) qualifications and knowledge to enhance purchasing strategies and practices.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, trends, and regulations related to procurement and supply chain management.
  • Apply CIPS principles in contract negotiations, supplier selection, risk management, and enhancing procurement practices.
Purchasing Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Chemical Industry \xe2\x80\x93 Skills / Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess the necessary qualifications, including CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) certification, to excel in this position.
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager or in a similar role within the chemical industry, with technical knowledge of chemistry and the application of chemicals.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with a track record of securing advantageous terms and pricing agreements.
  • Experience in contract management, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating supplier contracts.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements related to chemical procurement.
Please Note: CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) certification or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
