Quantity Surveyor

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We're March Construction, a growing team building high-end residential projects across London and beyond.

We care about good work, clear communication, and people who do what they say they will.

We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor who shares that mindset. Someone who wants to be part of building things properly, not just pricing them and walking away.

Our projects need real technical understanding and a genuine focus on getting things right. We don't chase volume or cut corners, we'd rather spend an extra hour planning something properly than three fixing it later.

This role's about ownership. You'll get involved early, help turn drawings into real, buildable packages, and stay with the job right through to the end. It's for someone who likes detail, enjoys being part of the process, and takes pride in seeing a project run smoothly because they made it clear and well organised from the start.

Who you are

You stay calm when things get busy and you're comfortable talking through detail without turning it into a debate. When something doesn't line up, you don't wait to be told. You work it out and move things forward.

You take care with your work because it matters. Getting it right first time saves everyone the stress later.

You'll need at least five years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within high-end residential or similar technically detailed projects. A good working knowledge of Bluebeam, CAD, SketchUp, or comparable software is desirable, along with the confidence to lead pricing and package building independently.

You'll fit in here if you like working with people who do what they say they will. It's a team that listens, gets on, and keeps standards high because they take pride in doing things properly.

What you'll be doing

Take ownership of the commercial side of projects from tender through to final account. Lead the initial pricing and estimating process, reviewing drawings, breaking down tenders into clear, structured cost packages, and preparing accurate estimates. Use software like Bluebeam, SketchUp, CAD or similar tools to interpret drawings and communicate technical details clearly. Send pricing enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors, making sure costs are competitive, realistic, and in line with March Construction's approach. Convert external tender details into our own cost structure so everything is clear, consistent, and easy to follow. Work closely with the Construction Manager, Contracts Manager, and Project Manager throughout the tender and delivery stages. Negotiate contract terms, define inclusions and exclusions, and make sure mechanisms for payments, variations, and extensions of time are watertight. Stay current with industry regulations, especially around building safety and compliance, to keep the business protected. Oversee financial tracking once projects are live, making sure costs align with the plan and any changes are captured quickly and properly. Provide accurate cost reports and cashflow forecasts, keeping everyone informed and in control. Manage variations and valuations, ensuring timely sign-offs, documentation, and fair payment cycles between client and subcontractors. Oversee procurement in the early phases, setting up suppliers and subcontractors with the right pricing and agreements in place. Work collaboratively with the wider team, architects, engineers, project managers, and package leads to align cost control with how the job's actually being built. Help improve internal systems and templates so every project runs a bit smoother than the last. You'll be mostly office-based (right next to Brent Cross West Station), with the occasional site visit to keep a feel for how things are running.

About March Construction

We care about the detail, how things fit together, how they're built, and how they last. "High-end" doesn't just mean surface level; it means the details line up and what's underneath looks as good as what's on top.

That mindset runs through everything here, from the drawings and systems to the coffee in the office. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.

The team's experienced, straight-talking, and good at what they do. There's real momentum behind us as we refine how we work, improve systems, and raise standards as we grow.

We invest time in our people, making sure the right support, communication, and setup are in place so everyone can do their best work. When one person gets better, the whole team does. We're growing carefully, and finding the right people to grow with us matters more than just filling seats.

If you've ever watched a Formula 1 team and thought that's how construction should run (calm, precise, and everyone knowing their role) you'll probably fit right in here.

It's a great time to join us. The business is still improving its systems and finding better ways to run projects, so there's space for ideas and initiative. If you spot a way to make things smoother, we'll back you to make it happen.
