We are seeking a proactive Quantity Surveyor to join a growing construction business. This is a hands-on role responsible for the commercial, financial, and administrative control of construction projects.
You will work closely alongside the Director with involvement across all project stages to ensure they are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively, and with accurate commercial reporting. The role suits a Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable being office-based while also carrying out regular site visits as required. Competitive salary, negotiable based on experience.
Key responsibilities:
Surveying -
Prepare, price, manage, and agree variations and change orders with clients.
Assist with progress claims, valuations, and final accounts.
Negotiate pricing, variations, and commercial agreements with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Site visits -
Carry out site visits to assess access, existing conditions, and construction constraints.
Verify site conditions against drawings and specifications.
Take site photographs, including gas, electric, and other services, for record-keeping and coordination.
Identify discrepancies or required changes and flag where drawings or scopes may need updating.
Liaise with the Director, designers, and project teams following site inspections.
Project & site coordination -
Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
Monitor project progress and verify work quantities against drawings and site progress.
Support procurement by reviewing quotes, sourcing materials, and coordinating orders with project schedules.
KPI tracking & reporting -
Track project performance and prepare regular KPI summary reports covering cost, timelines, client satisfaction and outcomes.
Administration & document control -
Serve as the point of contact for phone, email, and in-person enquiries.
Manage electronic and hard-copy filing systems for drawings, contracts, permits, reports, and correspondence.
Control document workflows including logging, registering, archiving, and removing superseded documents.
Work closely alongside the Director to support pricing, reporting, workflows, and project performance.
About you -
Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry, on site experience is preferrable.
We are open to applications from Graduate Quantity Surveyors with at least one year of relevant experience, as well as more experienced Quantity Surveyors.
Strong understanding of cost control, estimating, variations, and contract administration.
Confident interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
Comfortable carrying out site visits and reporting findings clearly.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
Excellent organisational, multitasking, and communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities independently and as part of a team.
