The Department of Engineering within our Faculty of Science & Engineering is seeking applications for a

Reader in Construction Management

. As an academic leader, the Reader will deliver high quality impactful education informed by research and practice (including pedagogy and knowledge exchange) in line with the University's 'Road to 2030' strategy.

About the Role





The newly created role of Reader in Construction Management will provide academic leadership in teaching and curriculum development within the Department of Engineering. The role supports the University's strategic objective to deliver industry-relevant, professionally accredited programmes that meet skills needs in the construction and built environment sectors.



The post-holder will play a key role in enhancing the quality and innovation of teaching in construction management, with a focus on areas such as project delivery, digital construction, and sustainability. They will contribute to the development of inclusive, practice-informed pedagogy and ensure strong links between curriculum content and industry standards.



This role will support the delivery and continuous improvement of our UG and PG programmes in Construction Management, helping to ensure high levels of student satisfaction, graduate employability, and professional alignment.


Key Responsibilities as aligned with the Education Pedagogy and Citizenship route:




You will be responsible for mapping out undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to be introduced within the Department of Engineering over the next three to five years. As an initial priority, you will lead the development and launch of an MSc in Construction Management. Impact positively on the student experience and outcomes through your own practice, leadership of education initiatives and commitment to high-quality scholarship. Provide academic leadership informally and in formal roles at departmental, faculty and institutional levels, propagating good practice throughout the University. Lead practice-based initiatives and innovations, both with colleagues at the University and partners (academic and non-academic) externally, including internationally, to enhance educational outcomes for students and/or influence higher education policy or practice. Consistent with disciplinary norms, secure external funding, as Principal or Co-Investigator, and/or other support for your scholarship and associated knowledge exchange to influence higher education policy or practice. Lead and contribute to a range of activities such as recruitment, admissions, widening participation, outreach and public engagement.

Key Skills & Experiences



Prior experience in developing and delivering programmes in Construction Management. Effective leadership of projects alongside academic leadership contributions such as leading, motivating or developing others. Contributions in external roles that, for example, support the vitality of the discipline, influence strategy or policy, and enhance the standing of the University. Effective and innovative research-informed teaching and assessment practices, providing a stimulating environment for learning including proven ability to teach, supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with external stakeholders, for example non-academic partners, business, funding bodies, and Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies.
