To be responsible to the Service Manager for the management of the house as a whole, including the staff, the budget, the resources and fabric of the building, and the welfare of the children and young people.
MAIN DUTIES:

Managing Service Delivery
To act as the senior professional person in the staff team.
To promote and ensure quality of service provision to the children and Local Authorities
To promote the normal development of the children.
To protect children from threats to their health, welfare and normal development, both from inside and outside.
To ensure that the house environment is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the children being looked after.
To gear the running of the house to meet the expressed needs of the individual children.
To manage the group through its procedures, the norms established and the activities it is engaged in so that it provides an enjoyable and positive experience for its members.
To ensure the key stages in the stay of the children such as admission and discharge are properly managed, and reflect decisions recorded in care plans.
To ensure that children facing particular crises and stresses are offered appropriate additional support, and to ensure that staff are supported in dealing with the most complex situations.
To participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of individual children's care plans, this includes attending statutory reviews, contacts visits, etc.
To take responsibility for writing reports for statutory reviews and follow up review recommendations.
To give evidence in court as required.
To liaise regularly and effectively, and develop and maintain good working relationships with Social Workers, School Staff, Therapists, and other professionals who have a concern for the children's needs such as general practitioners.
To ensure there is consistency in the level of care being provided to the children by staff.
To take responsibility for regularly checking the files to make sure they are being completed correctly and are kept up to date, these include, Managers files, House files, and children's working and legal files.
Managing People
To provide leadership, guidance and management to the staff team.
To be responsible for the deployment and control of staff and to take responsibility for completing the monthly staff time sheet and any other paperwork relating to salaries.
To ensure that all staff receive regular supervision at a minimum 1 hour a month, new starters 30 minutes every 2 weeks until their induction is complete this includes all their training on the induction sheet.
To ensure there is a training plan for the house to include induction for new staff and new children, ongoing training.
To ensure staff have probation's at 3 and 6 months and are appraised annually.
To maintain good communication systems, to conduct staff meetings minimum monthly, take responsibility for informing staff of new developments and updates, distributing mail.
To communicate company policy and decisions made, clearly and positively.
To be concerned for the welfare of the staff, offering support at times of stress, praising work completed and monitoring performance, including sickness absence, to ensure HR are informed of any staff sickness.
To be responsible for allocating key carers to the children.
To monitor the progression of emotional resilience assessments and plans, resilience sessions and one to one work.
To be responsible for identifying training needs of your staff team from an individual, team and organisation perspective.
To be responsible for the ongoing training and development of all staff, to ensure all training is recorded in the personnel file and staff information file.
Managing Finance
To manage and operate budgets within the figures and guidelines laid down.
To monitor ongoing expenditure and to alert staff team if budgets are overspent.
To balance housekeeping accounts weekly.
To request additional funds
Managing Resources
To create a homely setting with which children can identify.
To maintain a safe environment, complying with Health and Safety and other legal requirements.
To maintain the fabric of the building, its grounds and equipment in good condition, encouraging staff and children to care for their surroundings and make best use of the available resources.
To liaise with the office for maintenance work which needs to be carried out.
To ensure compliance with the policies of the Company.
Personal
To advise as required on professional matters within the area of competence.
To maintain high standards of child care, and to be flexible in adapting to meet children's needs.To maintain professional knowledge and skills through training, reading and other such activities.
To report to your Line Manager in the event of awareness of bad practice.
To provide cover in the event of staff sickness, holidays etc.
To participate in the on-call rota duty, and hand over to other managers.
To attend Management Meetings, and supervisions.
To commit to ongoing personal and professional development.
To support other managers when required.
