Two Rivers Veterinary Practice is an eight vet independent mixed practice with surgeries in Peebles and Biggar, well known for excellent client service and compassionate care of our patients. We have recently moved to new purpose built premises in Peebles, and are looking for an additional full time nurse to join our team.
The successful applicant will ideally have several years experience of working in practice as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, and will be confident in first opinion surgical and medical nursing. The role offered is varied and will include admits and discharges, prep and theatre work, anaesthetic monitoring, taking radiographs, blood sampling and lab work, helping with work-ups and inpatients, nurse consults, stocking and ordering for pharmacy, dispensing medication and offering advice to pet owners in person and online. The successful candidate will be cheerful and hardworking, with a positive can-do attitude and excellent communication skills.
A head/lead nurse role would also be considered for the right applicant. This person would have a passion for high standards of patient care with enthusiasm for continual improvement and development of our nursing team. The role would involve support for less experienced RVNs, supervision and training of SVNs as a Clinical Coach, and development of evidence-based processes and procedures to build on our high standards of patient care, whilst also streamlining practice workflow and increasing efficiency. The head/lead nurse would be keen to further develop our nursing clinics and offer training for schedule III procedures, deliver and/or organise nursing CPD, conduct regular nurse meetings and nursing performance reviews, and manage the nursing rota.
We are looking for a full time RVN working 35-40 hours Monday to Friday (shifts between 8am and 7pm) plus Saturday mornings on a rota basis (approx 1 in 4). The position will based mainly in our Peebles surgery, but is likely to include some regular shifts in Biggar. As a practice we do our own on call, and although there is no official OOH nursing rota, RVNs may sometimes be asked to help with care of inpatients or surgical procedures OOH. RVNs may also be required to help with equine visits or farm work on occasion .
Salary will be commensurate with experience and is reviewed annually. Annual leave allowance is 30 days per year (including bank holidays) and increases with length of service. There is a 4% employer autoenrolment pension contribution, and sick and maternity pay policies are in excess of statutory. RCVS and VDS fees are paid, along with one other membership eg BVNA. CPD is encouraged and funded.
