Guiding Light Care (GLC) are opening a new childcare provision in the Kempston area of Bedfordshire. We are seeking to recruit a full-time, home manager with excellent leadership skills, and have knowledge and understanding of the Children's home regulations and care standards and takes a positive and committed approach in developing the team to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people aged 8 - 17 years. We will be providing care for children and young people aged 8 - 17 years with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

About you
As the registered home manager, you will lead, inspire, and develop a team that takes a child-centred approach in providing a caring and safe environment that nurtures children and young people in our care, whilst also maintaining compliance with all Regulations and Quality Standards.
We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and motivational skills and ability who will be able to continue to develop the service we provide and maintain the highest standards. You will supervise, mentor, and develop a staff team to ensure children and young people are supported in their daily routines and in their physical, emotional and practical needs. The role of Home Manager requires active commitment to the children and young people in our care and a diligence to the values and ethos of Guiding Light Care.
You will bring knowledge of child development and the needs of children and young people; experience of working with other professionals and the local authority, preparing formal reports including Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 and a sound understanding of working within the regulatory frameworks, compliance and health and safety of the environment.
You will be a positive role model for both staff and young people demonstrating best practice in achieving the best possible outcomes for the young people we support, in line with Ofsted Regulations and Quality Standards. You will mentor, encourage, and support them in the development of independent skills and education attainment.
You will have responsibility as the designated safeguarding lead for all child protection issues in the home. The safeguarding of children and young people are of the utmost priority at GLC and therefore you will be required to undergo a full enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) and vetting in line with safer recruitment policies and procedures.
Specifications and Requirements for the role
Manage the residential home on a day-to-day basis ensuring it is compliant in meeting all relevant legislative and contractual requirements, including the health and educational needs of young people and liaise with the Responsible Individual regarding any possible non - compliance.
To hold responsibility as the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and the person appointed to take lead responsibility for child protection issues in the organisation.
Liaise with other departments and external agencies to ensure that the young people receive appropriate plans, programmes, and support in the home to aid their rehabilitation into the community and to meet contractual requirements.
Mentor, support and develop staff, including supervision, to maximise their performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met.
Maintain knowledge of and apply the relevant legislative, regulative standards against inspection framework requirements.
To have good management of Rota to ensure the home is suitably staffed at all times.
To be able to give children and young people a voice in decisions about the care that impact their lives.
To exercise a variety of skills to encourage young people in their education attainment.
Able to carry out all duties in line with Guiding Light Care (GLC) policies and procedures.
Able to maintain high standards of health and safety, safeguarding and quality as well as ensuring an inclusive, adaptable, and caring atmosphere.
To actively participate in staffing matters relating to recruitment, grievance, disciplinary and health and safety with the senior management team.
Where necessary, identify and challenge negative behaviours in an appropriate and constructive manner.
To implement and promote the organisations diversity and equal opportunities policies and procedures.
To respond appropriately to emergencies in the residential setting
To maintain a regular system of recording in relation to all young people in your care.
Must be committed to undertake regular job-related training and upskilling.
Must hold a professional social work qualification, QCF level 3 in Children's Workforce and a Level 5 in Leadership and Management or working towards.
Minimum 3 years in a residential setting and in a senior capacity.
To address the needs of the young people according to their individual care plans
Create and produce activities to occupy and develop young people in order that they gain life skills and education on an informed basis.
The ability to act as a positive an appropriate adult role model for young people and the ability to offer a professional relationship in a caring and accepting manner.
Able to form and maintain good working relationships and to work effectively as part of a team.
Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent and have a willingness to learn new applications and technology as appropriate.
Assist in budget preparation and manage and control budgets to meet financial parameters.
Attend and engage in staff meetings where required.
