Overview

Haywards Farmshop is home to a busy, high-quality butchery that takes pride in traditional methods, expert cuts, and premium local meats. We're looking for a skilled and reliable full-time Butcher to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role covering all aspects of butchery -- from whole carcass breakdown and counter preparation to customer service and maintaining high hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

Carcass Breakdown:

Carry out full carcass butchery (beef, pork, lamb, and poultry) to required specs

Counter Prep:

Prepare, display, and rotate fresh meat cuts, ready-to-cook items, and value-added products

Customer Service:

Engage with retail customers in a friendly, knowledgeable manner; support with cooking advice and product recommendations

Order Fulfilment:

Prepare wholesale and customer orders accurately and efficiently

Stock Management:

Monitor stock levels, check deliveries, and assist with ordering

Food Safety & Hygiene:

Follow all HACCP, food safety, and cleanliness standards at all times

Team Support:

Work closely with other butchers, apprentices, and the shop team to ensure smooth daily operations

Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a butcher in a retail or production environment Confident in whole carcass butchery and a wide range of traditional and modern cuts Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety practices Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude Ability to work cleanly, efficiently, and as part of a close-knit team Passion for high-quality meat and a professional, reliable approach
