Jo Bird and Co Ltd was established in 1986 and we are therefore enjoying our 39th year of successful business. We are extremely proud of our achievements during this time and are now internationally recognised as being a leader in the design and manufacture of lifesaving and fire safety equipment storage. We specialise in composite manufacture and export cabinets to clients across the world. We work with many well-known multinational companies and our cabinets are designed and built to withstand some of the toughest environments.

We are 2 times winner of the Queen's Award for Enterprise. Recognised in 2018 for Innovation and in 2013 for International Trade. We are also recipients of the Lloyds Register Type Test Approval, ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications. We have recently signed a Carbon Net Zero pledge to reduce our carbon emissions and focus on using more sustainable materials. Our quality standards therefore speak for themselves.

The successful candidate will therefore be joining us at an exciting time and needs to be able to embrace change! We currently employ 25 staff in total.

Sales/Marketing Coordinator Role Overview



The post will be predominately office based, with the option for occasional remote working. Promoting our product lines with the opportunity to represent the company at technical trade shows and exhibitions.

This is a salaried role. It is not commission based and there is no requirement to cold call or adopt the 'hard sell', we are dealing with Business to Business sales. Whilst you will be working toward personal goals and team key performance indicators (KPI's) it is not a high pressurised sales environment.

We will expect you to develop into being able to see customers face to face, both UK and abroad, training will be given for this as the role progresses. As the role progresses there are opportunities for progression within the role to include foreign travel and account management.

Our sales approach is about developing longer term relationships with our UK and worldwide distributors and direct commercial customers, many of whom are multinational organisations. Our Sales team provides quality customer service at pre-sale, during production and after sale, ensuring correct information is sent out in a timely manner and enquires or problems responded to professionally and efficiently. We are not about one-off sales, our focus is on developing long term, repeat business.

Collaborative team working is a critical part of the role as there is regular contact with our research and development, production, and office support colleagues.

Key Responsibilities-



1. Receive sales enquiries and prepare accurate estimates, considering any customer discounts, lead-times, or other factors, with an awareness of need to meet agreed profit margins

2. Be first point of contact for distributors / customer product enquiries or after sales contact

3. To assist with quotations, including day to day enquiries and large project enquiries where necessary

4. Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential customers, keeping in touch telephone calls & estimate follow ups to maximise customer retention and grow the business profitably

5. Achieve the defined KPI's

6. Liaise with Sales Manager to pass on any market intelligence/potential product developments which will help increase future sales opportunities.

7. Effectively communicate the Companies vision in all sales opportunities, ensuring sales correspondence has relevance to the customer and are always in their best interests

8. Ensure ERP system software are regularly updated and data stored / used in accordance with internal protocols

9. Deal with customer issues as and when appropriate and help any investigation to find out a long term solution.

10. Assist Sales Manager in accurately reporting on the sales pipeline

11. To be able to process and raise Sales orders, liaising with the Appropriate persons to estimate production and delivery timescales and manage customer expectations.

12. To assist and help to complete various sub supplier forms

13. Attend trade fairs, exhibitions, or other events to promote our products and represent the company as required.

14. Assist with producing marketing materials where necessary

PERSON SPECIFICATION-



Essential



Excellent eye for detail, ability to read order specifications and pick out crucial information and proactively identify queries. Be able to thoroughly cross reference if necessary to ensure order details are correct.

Ability to build and maIntain positive working relationships both internally and externally

Willingness to learn and ask questions

Previous experience within a relevant office-based sales or customer relationship role (i.e. small business selling services or products to regular / retained customer base)

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral (face to face and telephone) with ability to adapt approach for difference audiences, including making occasional sales presentations

Self-motivated and driven by the desire to achieve organisational financial goals

Possess patience, personal resilience and maintain positive mind-set for the longer-term sales strategy

Ability to plan and prioritise own workload effectively (time management and organisational skills)

Willingness to take ownership of tasks and use appropriate initiative

Sound numeracy skills

Sound administrative skills and confidence using a range of software products including MS office package

Active listening skills, learning what the customer needs before promoting products

Full driving license and willingness and ability to travel within the UK

Desirable



Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment

Previous account management experience

Educated to Degree Level (or equivalent)

Previous commercial / technical sales experience

Project management skills

Ability to research and analyse information

International trade / export experience, including adapting personal approach to respect different cultures

Willingness and ability to travel overseas where beneficial to the role

Ability to effectively negotiate and positively influence others
