Overview
The Headteacher and Governors at Tylers Green Middle School are looking to appoint an exceptional School Business Manager to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team in our school, managing our Finance, HR and Health and Safety support functions.
Term time only
Salary Type: Bucks pay
Salary details: Range 5 - 7, 33,158 - 45,072 (pro rata for 40 weeks per year plus holiday entitlement, approximate salary 28,949 - 39,698)
Contract type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time only, including inset days and one additional week, 40 weeks per year

About the role

Your responsibilities will include managing the Finance, HR and Health & Safety support services in our school, including line managing three support staff. You will be expected to multitask a large variety of tasks, all handled with care and professionalism, among many others:
FINANCE

  • Ensure the school's finances are managed in line with the School's Financial Value Standards.
  • Manage the financial management of the school package (Arbor Finance) using the school's MIS, ensuring information is entered, updated and maintained
  • Administer, or oversee, those financial processes associated with the letting of the school site, its buildings and facilities, to include generating invoices, receipt of income and ensuring that all appropriate records are maintained.
  • Be in charge of all ongoing contracts with external contractors of the school, including ad-hoc work and annual contracts; re-tendering and commissioning new contracts as required
  • Be responsible for the administration of all matters associated with the Voluntary School Fund
HUMAN RESOURCES
  • Ensure all HR aspects of the school are carried out correctly and timely and according to HR policies and law.
  • Assist in the recruitment of staff at the school, including all aspects from advertising, organising interviews, carrying out checks and references, and finally initiating appointment and induction
  • Ensure all staff are remunerated accurately and timely manner; liaising with Bucks Council's HR department and dealing with staff enquiries as necessary
  • Champion staff mental health and wellbeing in a supportive capacity, as well as signposting to external services
HEALTH & SAFETY
  • Assist the Headteacher by liaising with the Local Authority and appropriate services on matters related to the school site. To develop close links with all staff to ensure collaboration and continuity, where appropriate, on all relevant H&S issues.
  • Advising the Governing Body to ensure all the relevant premises documents and policies are maintained.
  • Manage the administration of all maintenance and repairs, including programmed improvements to the school site in collaboration with the caretaker.
  • Obtain quotations for additional works or repairs in line with Buckinghamshire County Local Management of Schools requirements.
LINE MANAGEMENT OF STAFF
  • Manage a team, including allocation of work and performance management of office staff and the Caretaker.
  • Ensure that the school office is manned appropriately to ensure the effective running of the school office; help cover the front desk during lunches, sickness and other absences.
You will be working closely with all staff, external providers and contractors, the local authority and the pupils and parents of the school, keeping the best outcomes for all our children at the forefront at all times.
About you
The ability to multitask and prioritise an ever-changing workload, along with high levels of resilience, flexibility, adaptability and patience, are key when taking on the school business manager role in our senior leadership team. No day will be the same as the one before, and you will be presented with new and exciting challenges and experiences on an ongoing basis. The right person has to be kind and empathetic when dealing with staff crises, methodical and meticulous in financial matters and pragmatic and down to earth when it comes to health and safety. Being hard working, self-motivated and able to prioritise your workload are essentials, as well as being discreet and diplomatic when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters. A strong sense of teamwork is more important than having school experience, although previous administration experience is absolutely essential, ideally coupled with staff line management, and definitely a level of financial expertise.
