SENCO & Inclusion Manager- Due to internal promotion
Purpose of the Role
To ensure children with additional needs are identified early, supported effectively, and included fully in the nursery setting and can access the curriculum. You will work with team, families, and external professionals to provide the right help at the right time, minimising disruption and maximising outcomes for every child.
To provide and upskill the team of Early Years Educators with strategies and skills to help support children and families through regular interactions and specific training such as use of early engaging play and modelled speech, language and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Observe and assess children's development to identify additional needs early.
Create and implement Individual Support Plans with clear goals and strategies.
Adapt learning activities so all children can participate and thrive.
Train, guide, and support nursery team in inclusive practice.
Liaise with external professionals (e.g. Speech and Language Therapists, OTs, Educational Psychologists).
Manage referrals, paperwork, and reviews linked to additional needs.
Work closely with parents and carers, sharing observations and involving them in decisions.
Spend time daily across rooms, observing through play and supporting team members and universal provision.
Ensure inclusion and equal access for every child.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
Experience working with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements.
Strong communication and listening skills with both families and professionals.
Ability to write and review support plans.
Ability to work within the Leeds city council guidelines to apply for funding and EHCP's.
Collaborative approach to working with team and external agencies.
Patience, empathy, and a child-centred mindset.
Desirable
SENCO qualification (or willingness to work towards it).
Experience in a nursery or early years setting.
Experience of working with children with SEND.
Training in specific intervention strategies (e.g. speech and language, sensory play).
Knowledge of the Leeds local offer and services available to children and families both in Leeds and out.

Pay: 28,860.00-30,784.00 per year
