Join Sheffield City Council as a Senior Business Support Officer within Children's Services






Temporary Post until July 2026 in the Leaving Care Service - Staying Close Project.

Our Business Support Service offers an established career progression route, and the experience needed to move into other areas within Sheffield City Council, such as Project Support, HR and Finance.





You will be joining an existing business support team who provide support to the Leaving Care Service (Staying Close Project).





We are looking for committed, passionate, enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who are confident in verbal and written communication. The service handles private and confidential information, so discretion and confidentiality are essential. There may be times in this role when you hear distressing and sensitive information.




Key Responsibilities:




Provide high-level administrative support to the service, our clients, and key stakeholders. Day to day supervision and support for other Business Support staff as required. To provide efficient and effective business process & document production, including complex minute taking and customer services support to internal and external customers. Maintenance / upkeep of the Cohort Monitoring Spreadsheet as well as additional ongoing monitoring and data input that feeds into the data submission of the Staying Close Project.



General Tasks:




Responding to email queries / sending secure emails. Supporting clients over the phone. Processing work requests, such as arranging room bookings for meetings, travel, accommodation and interpreter bookings as well a wide range of other requests. Ensuring standard furniture / fittings condition is checked on new tenancy / end of tenancy. Arranging replacement of missing or damaged furniture and fittings as required. Arranging appropriate cleaners to visit and deep clean properties at end of / during tenancy. This position would provide essential support for the Staying Close Project as well as to the wider service of the Leaving Care and Young Refugee Service Business Support



Finance:




Provide effective financial monitoring and financial data reporting as required. Order goods / services for clients and workers as well as arrange payment and process invoices Respond to payment enquiries Arrange pre-paid card payments and carry out related system tasks as well as pre-paid Card Surgeries for Staying Close Staff. Ensure all budgetary recharges are correct for Staying Close and specific accommodation budgets, update spreadsheets and request internal journals, as necessary. Consult with property utility suppliers (Gas Electricity, Water etc) to organise proper payment of bills for each property / meter readings on empty properties. Arrange access to property to resolve problems.



Meeting Support (Note Taking):




General meeting support to Ad-Hoc meetings, NEET Panels, Strategy Meetings etc.



Requirements:




5 GCSE or equivalent (including 1 GCSE in both English and Maths). Proven experience in a similar administrative role. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
