Binnies an RSK Group company are delighted to be supporting the Environment Agency on their Consultancy Services Framework (CSF). We are therefore specifically seeking a highly skilled and organised candidate who would be interested in a Senior Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) role. The main focus would be leading the environmental auditing of construction projects on this framework; projects which include traditional flood defence work and small-medium scale maintenance and improvement works. Typical issues include protected species, pollution, surface water management, material management, air quality and noise.

You would be working with an established multi-disciplinary team of environmental and engineering professionals working on this Framework. You will be also be joining our close national team of environmental professionals. We have an active Environmental Community of Practice and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of environmental best practice and innovation.

Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):

  • Monitoring sites and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions and associated documents (e.g. Environmental Action Plan or Construction Environment Management Plan) to help reduce project risks and delays
  • Being a key point of contact for clients and working closely with staff and contractors from several disciplines to provide an integrated ECoW service
  • Providing mentor role to members of the environmental team.
The role is suitable for full or part time (min 3 days per week) working and is permanent. The CSF role will continue for at least another year, after which there will be opportunity to continue working on a range of environmental work on large infrastructure projects including flood, coastal and maritime projects, ports, water utilities, transport and renewable power; either as an ECoW or undertaking other environmental assessment work depending on your interest.

Location is flexible within the south-west of England. There is the option to work remotely or you would be welcome in our offices in Exeter or Bradford-on-Avon.

Binnies are the main sponsor of the Association of Environmental Clerks of Works (AECoW), the qualifying body for ECoW and support their mission to raise professional standards amongst those providing ECoW services. You will benefit from technical and H&S training and paid membership of two professional institutions.

Qualifications and Experience:

The role is suitable for an experienced environmental professional with full professional membership (such as AECoW, IEMA, CIWEM or CIEEM) or close to achieving. You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
  • An environmental related degree
  • Chartered (or working towards) with a relevant institute
  • Experience as an Environmental Clerk of Works, ideally in the Water Sector
  • Be solution-focussed and understand the importance of pragmatic advice on a construction site
  • An understanding of consenting processes (planning, HRA, WFD, environmental permitting etc) and key environmental/ecological legislation
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
The following are desirable but not essential:
  • Previous experience of working in a consultancy environment
  • CSCS Card holder \xe2\x80\x93 training can be supplied if required
