The opportunity

Working as part of the Immigration Compliance Team within the Global Student Advisory Service, you will play a vital role in protecting and maintaining the University\xe2\x80\x99s Student Sponsor Licence which has a long-standing track record of compliance. This licence permits the recruitment and enrolment of international students, creating a rich and diverse student body, enhancing the learning experience for all. You will be instrumental in providing support and advice to students and staff with regards to engagement monitoring procedures and use immigration knowledge and expertise to make informed decisions. You will be meticulous with data and will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience.

You will

  • Demonstrate expertise in the UK government\xe2\x80\x99s immigration regulations, taking responsibility to address any issues that may impact Cardiff Met\xe2\x80\x99s licence and ensure compliance with the legislative requirements set by UKVI. This includes, interpreting complex immigration rules in relation to individual students\xe2\x80\x99 circumstances and educational and immigration history.
  • Manage, coordinate and oversee the enrolment period for new international students including immigration document checking, BRP distribution and liaison with senior staff and stakeholders across the university. This also includes management of the processes relating to obtaining and storing copies of passports/visas/academic documents to ensure compliance with the Student visa regulations.
  • Use initiative and forward thinking to create, embed, manage and oversee university attendance/engagement monitoring procedures, working closely with colleagues across the University to ensure immigration regulations are adhered to. This includes providing training to academic schools regarding attendance monitoring regulations, advising on processes to ensure compliance within schools and providing accurate statistics to senior management at regular intervals and at short notice.
  • Develop and deliver a transparent and effective communications plan and attendance monitoring procedure for international students, to ensure university compliance and safeguard students sponsor licence. Provide pastoral care to students who declare sensitive issues and refer and report to specialist services where appropriate.
  • Manage and oversee the visa and arrival platform, providing staff training on its functions for the CAS issuing process. Act as first point of contact for system functionality and improvements and be a source of authoritative guidance to all university stakeholders.
  • Line management responsibility for Immigration Compliance Officer and responsibility for training, managing and supervising the Immigration Compliance Team on key aspects of compliance work; setting and overseeing tasks and delegating work.
