Senior Residential Support Worker - Key Responsibilities and Expectations
As part of Acorns to Oaks Children's Care and Support, your role is to ensure the highest standards of care for children and young people by leading shifts, modelling best practice, and upholding the organisation's values and safeguarding responsibilities.
Core Purpose
Deliver high-quality, child-centred care in line with Acorns to Oaks' ethos.
Lead and coordinate shifts, acting as a role model and decision-maker.
Ensure children's daily plans are followed and their basic and emotional needs are consistently met.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Leadership and Oversight
Provide clear direction to staff, challenge poor practice, and support sound decision-making.
Monitor and provide regular feedback on staff performance and care standards.
Lead on the development and implementation of daily and weekly shift planners.
Ensure effective handovers and communication across the team.
Safeguarding and Compliance
Maintain vigilance for signs of distress, neglect, or abuse, and respond appropriately.
Apply safeguarding practices in line with risk assessments and organisational policy.
Ensure compliance with legislation, quality standards, and internal procedures.
Use the whistleblowing policy where necessary to address concerns.
Communication and Professionalism
Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, external professionals, and families.
Accurately represent children's needs in meetings and reports.
Uphold Acorns to Oaks' cultural and behavioural expectations at all times.
Maintain a positive and constructive tone when discussing children, colleagues, and the organisation.
Operational Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records relating to care, health and safety, fire safety, and petty cash.
Support the home's quality assurance processes, including Regulation 44 and 45 reports.
Ensure training is embedded in daily practice and that rotas are managed proactively.
Lead by example in flexibility, initiative, and accountability.
Team Development and Reflection
Support and be supported by colleagues to ensure a cohesive team environment.
Engage in regular supervision and reflective practice.
Recognise and utilise team members' strengths to ensure effective shift management.
Equity and Individualised Care
Respect and respond to each child's race, culture, language, religion, and identity.
Provide comfort and direction to children under stress, ensuring dignity and fairness.
Create a homely, nurturing environment that reflects the preferences of the children and young people.
Other Duties
Undertake any other reasonable tasks as directed by senior management, in line with the seniority of the role.
