Are you an experienced residential care professional ready to take your career to the next level? If you're someone who combines empathy, resilience, and a passion for child-centred care, this is your opportunity to lead and make a real difference.
Cornerstone Children's Homes is on the lookout for a Senior Residential Care Worker to join our Reading team, supporting a young person in a solo residential placement. This is a rare chance to blend hands-on therapeutic care with leadership--within a values-driven, personalised environment.
What You'll Do
You'll lead a small, dedicated team while providing one-to-one support to a young person. Your leadership will help create a safe, nurturing, and structured home where trust flourishes, emotional stability strengthens, and meaningful progress happens every day.
Your key responsibilities:
Deliver consistent, trauma-informed care tailored to the young person's unique emotional and behavioural needs
Take charge of daily shifts, helping with rota planning and maintaining structured routines
Support emotional wellbeing through expert de-escalation and safe intervention techniques
Keep accurate, detailed records--care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour strategies
Build strong, professional partnerships with social workers, therapists, educators, and other key stakeholders
Ensure all safeguarding, health and safety, and care regulations are met without compromise
Foster a reflective, supportive team culture focused on growth and continuous learning
Who You Are
You're a confident, emotionally grounded leader who leads with integrity and compassion. You understand that every moment counts, especially in one-to-one care settings where trust and consistency mean everything.
You bring:
Significant experience in residential childcare, ideally with therapeutic or mental health-informed practice
Confidence and skill in managing behaviour and handling high-risk situations effectively
Proven leadership experience or strong potential to lead a team
Excellent communication, emotional resilience, and a reflective approach
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use
Why This Role Matters
This role is more than just a promotion--it's your chance to be the steady, trusted pillar a young person can count on. Your leadership will help lay the foundation for healing, growth, and a brighter future.
What We Offer
Competitive pay of 13.50 - 15.50 per hour, plus additional sleep-in and duty allowances
A structured rota designed to support consistency and a healthy work-life balance
A leadership role with genuine autonomy, purpose, and influence
Comprehensive induction, specialist training, and ongoing professional development
A reflective, values-driven team culture grounded in trust and empathy
Clear pathways to progress within a forward-thinking, child-centred organisation
