Background and Job Purpose: "Supporting positive change in the lives of children and young people"
The Zone Youth Club, Broadstairs is a charity offering free, high-quality opportunities to children and young people between the ages of 5-16. We believe the creative arts as well as outdoor sports and activities are a superb tool for creativity, motivation, inclusion and self-confidence. Since our inception in 2006, we have developed a significant track record for supporting children and young people through our youth club, including creative projects, especially those facing challenging circumstances (such as those in care, young people with disabilities and those who face emotional and social difficulties), and have maintained a good record of obtaining support funding.
The role of Senior Youth Worker involves supervising and delivering a range of centre-based sessions, working with and supporting children and young people whilst they engage in positive activities. It includes supervision of designing, planning, delivering, and evaluating activities. Keeping records and monitoring paperwork is required.
In addition to the term time youth worker role, there are extended working hours during the day and during the school holidays. As we are a community cafe, we have adults and families visiting, and offer a small cafe service. We deliver a very full programme of activities during the holidays, including some trips out, and residential weekends.
A knowledge of food hygiene and preparation is important - training will be provided if required. It is important to make all our customers feel welcome and included, as we take great pride in being at the heart of our local community.
As a small team, we work very closely together and expect everyone to help and support each other. This includes the general running of the venue such as tidying, cleaning, and some light kitchen duties when required.
A good knowledge of Charity governance, bid-writing, fundraising, and basic book-keeping is useful but not essential - training will be provided. The role involves regular contact with the Manager and Board of Trustees to report on programme development, funding, and any issues that may arise including safeguarding concerns, and reviews of policies and procedures.
