Electrical Site Engineer

to join our Industrial Biomass team.

Key Responsibilities:



Maintenance and Operational:



Carry out electrical repairs as required Conduct routine inspections and planned maintenance activities across electrical systems and associated plant Ensure the optimal and continuous operation of electrical systems by conducting routine inspections and maintenance, monitoring metering equipment and adjusting levels as necessary Respond to site call-outs during heating outages, service interruptions, or emergencies, including periodic remote performance monitoring during out-of-hours periods while on call Liaise with the client's engineering and maintenance teams on site, to ensure smooth coordination of maintenance activities.

Compliance, Testing, and Reporting:



Undertake planned maintenance, checks, testing, and record keeping ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and industry best practice governing, LTHW, MTHW systems, LTHW feed water quality, biomass combustion and fuel management Monitor feed water and emissions quality to ensure compliance with operational standards Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance routines, and repairs, including photographic evidence where applicable Ensure accurate and detailed reporting and record keeping of fuel supply, maintenance activities, testing results, HSEQ incidents, risk assessments and audits, using our online HSEQ and service management systems.

Fuel Supply and System Operations:



Facilitate the biomass fuel supply to the site by receiving deliveries, conducting fuel testing and recording results, and handling fuel onto the walking floor system using a telehandler where required.

HSEQ and Site Standards:



Contribute to a high level of HSEQ performance, encouraging a strong safety culture and compliance with HSEQ legislation and Group policies, supporting high standards and contributing to overall HSEQ compliance and performance Promptly escalate any serious issues or HSEQ concerns to the Site Manager Assist with the management and support of sub-contractors and work permits on site, as required, for ongoing operations and maintenance, capital works, and upgrades Support the maintenance of cleanliness and housekeeping standards on site Manage tools and spare parts stock to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.

What we are looking for:



We're looking for a proactive and skilled engineer with a solid foundation in engineering and hands-on electrical expertise. You'll thrive in a safety-critical environment, confidently tackling maintenance, diagnostics, and repair tasks to keep operations running smoothly and safely.

The ideal candidate will combine technical know-how with practical experience, and a strong commitment to operational excellence. We're particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

Electrical Engineering qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, HNC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) Practical electrical expertise, with the ability to safely perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs Experience working with heat-generating equipment in large industrial settings with continuous heat demand Hands-on experience with biomass boilers, including routine operation, preventative maintenance, and performance monitoring Solid understanding of LTHW, MTHW, and HTHW steam systems and associated equipment such as pumps, valves, and controls Competence using DCS, BMS, and CMMS systems for plant operation and maintenance planning Ideally holds a BOAS Steam Operator qualification (or willingness to work towards it) Experience in biomass fuel handling, including delivery, fuel testing, storage, and feeding systems (e.g. walking floors) Strong awareness of HSEQ standards, supported by operator-level training (e.g. Safety Passport/CSCS) and the ability to produce risk assessments and method statements A methodical approach to documentation, with the ability to produce clear and accurate records and reports Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, contractors, and clients A practical problem-solver, with the ability to troubleshoot efficiently and work safely under pressure A flexible and responsive attitude, willing to adapt to shifting priorities, provide on-call support, and ensure continuity of service A strong commitment to high standards of operational performance, safety, and environmental compliance across a 24/7 biomass energy site.

Additional Information:



Location: Muntons, Stowmarket, IP14 2AG (candidates must be based within a maximum of 45 minutes travel time from site to support on-call duties, and response to operational issues) Competitive salary to be discussed at interview Hours of work: Average of 40 paid hours per week (excluding breaks) Contract Type: Permanent.
The site operates 7 days a week (8am to 5pm), so the role will require weekend working, and out of hours on-call on a rota/shift pattern. This will also include periodic remote performance monitoring of the system during out of hours periods by the on-call engineer.

Additional hours worked outside of normal working hours responding to call outs will be paid at time and a half basic rate on weekdays and Saturdays, and double basic rate on Sundays. A minimum of 4 hours duration will be paid for a call out.

Hours of Work



Normal working hours 8am to 5pm with 1-hour unpaid break each day

Average of 40 paid hours per week (excluding breaks)

Annualised hours 2,080 per annum

Annualised hours start date 1st January each year

Example Shift Pattern



Week 1: Mon- Sun, 08:00 - 17:00

Week 2: Wed-Fri, 08:00 - 17:00

Week 3: Mon-Fri, 08:00 - 17:00
