Software Engineer
Northampton

As a Barclays Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing secured software solutions, both for backend and frontend using modern languages and technologies. You will work closely with colleagues to rapidly iterate requirements producing production strength scalable and resilient software which will be used by millions of customers.

Hybrid Working
We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We\xe2\x80\x99re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances

What will you be doing?

• Promoting innovation by actively advocating new tools, processes and technical developments to drive continuous development in line with current industry strategies
• Making technology choices, leading and mentoring best practices to more junior engineers
• Producing clean efficient code based on specifications and developing components from UI to back end using modern languages and techniques
• Creating and maintaining deployment tooling and automation to support the CI/CD pipelines
• Promoting effective cloud-based approaches
• Embracing agile methodologies to rapidly iterate solutions
• Driving innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
• Championing customer focus, with an understanding of business impact to drive system improvements

What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:

• Experience working on both front and backend software challenges
• Knowledge of development of RESTful Web Services
• Knowledge of Java, .net, Go, C, Scala
• Knowledge of testing frameworks such as Junit, Mockito, Selenium, Cucumber, Spring Unit, Mocha, Jasmine, Jest

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Experience of working within Financial Services industry
• Experience in creating prototypes and working directly with stakeholders
• Knowledge of Event based architectures
• Understanding of SCM, packaging and build tools \xe2\x80\x93 GIT, Jenkins and Maven, Gradle

Where will you be working?
Northampton was the birthplace of Barclaycard in 1966 and we\'ve been based in Pavilion Drive since the building opened in 1997.
We purchased the building from the landlord in early 2018 as a sign of our commitment to investment in Northampton. Plans to further develop this Campus-style location are under way to allow for a real collaborative work environment. Based just off the A45 it is easily accessible by both car and bus routes.
