Job Description


We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Product and Engineering team.

Engineers at Oak have a range of specialisms and interests covering web application development, APIs, databases, serverless computing, GraphQL, React and component-led UI. If you have experience in any of these areas we\'d love to hear from you.

We work together in product squads alongside designers, researchers and education experts, regularly releasing new features and improvements to give teachers and their pupils quick and easy access to the highest quality learning resources.

Responsibilities

Development of highly-responsive, accessible web-based user interfaces

Collaborate with wider engineering team to build robust, well-tested products that deliver incredible user experiences

Become the expert authority within the team on specific aspects of the code base

Take an active role in the design and implementation of new processes and tools that improve the user or developer experience

Provide mentorship for a less experienced colleague

Be part of our on-call rota to ensure users can access our products whenever and wherever they are

As a member of the Oak Team, contribute to the planning and culture of the organisation

Work in cross-functional and product oriented squads with colleagues from across the organisation, as required

Support all work across Engineering and take on other general responsibilities as required

Knowledge, skills and experience

2+ years of professional experience building web-based applications using modern Javascript libraries and tools

Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on digital product development

Desire to build beautiful, easy-to-use digital products with an understanding of the importance of accessibility in all its forms

Experience of building automated test suites and an understanding of the value of different types of testing (e.g. unit vs integration)

Great communication and collaborative skills

The successful candidate will have a desire to contribute in all areas to ensure Oak is successful. You will be comfortable working at pace and you will continuously look at ways that the team can work more smartly. You will be excellent at working as part of a remote team, building relationships and managing your time effectively.

If you are shortlisted, we\'ll invite you to the next step, which will be a 30 minute screening call over zoom. After that you may be invited to the next step which involves a technical pairing session and a technical interview carried our remotely over zoom and will last approximately 2 hours. Also, we love giving feedback, so at the end of the application process we\'ll share how well you performed.

We are aiming to hold screening calls within a week of receiving your application and formal interviews will start in the week commencing 2nd January 2023.
