L3Harris in Portchester are a market leader in the development, build and integration of systems for a wide range of unmanned marine vehicles with military and commercial applications. For military these include Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Fast Inshore Attack Craft (FIAC) for combat training. For commercial these include Oil and Gas Exploration and Construction, Oceanographic Data Collection, Hydrographic surveying and Environmental Surveys.

This role is to join a rapidly growing team of Systems Engineers and to both line manager and coordinate what is current a small team of early career professionals. The applicant would be responsible for supporting their development as well as resource management, mapping people to project demands. Beyond the line management aspects of this role, the incumbent would act as a Systems Engineer directly on key projects across both defence and commercial applications working within cross-functional project teams to deliver complex systems incorporating software, mechanical and electrical systems.

Part of the role is to hold accountability for the technical governance of specific projects.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
  • Maintaining the resource plan of System Engineering demand against projects
  • Providing an escalation path for System Engineering issues
  • Providing day to day management of verification and validation activities
  • Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints.
  • Supervises lower level professionals or supervisors and/or higher-level support
  • Communicates with parties inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret policies, practices, and procedures
  • Making improvements to processes, systems, and solutions.
  • Planning and establishing operational objectives for a team with moderate impact on department results.
  • Maintaining the resource plan for the department
  • Managing resources against budgeted hours
  • Deploying a basic knowledge in management approaches with proficient knowledge within professional discipline.

The role of Systems Engineering Manager requires the following experience and skills:
  • Minimum of 5/6 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a Systems Engineering leadership role
  • Management of Verification and Validation (V&V) evidence and understand the importance of traceability to customer requirements
  • Resource matrix management for Systems Engineers deployed across multiple projects, manage demand across projects, review workforce planning and carry out recruitment activities to meet business needs
  • Proven experience in technical governance across a variety of projects
  • Broad knowledge of Systems Design methodologies
