Key Responsibilities
Enforce consumer protection, licensing, and fair trading legislation.
Carry out inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with regulations.
Investigate complaints, gather evidence, and take enforcement action where required.
Provide advice and guidance to businesses and the public on trading standards matters.
Prepare reports, case files, and present evidence in court when necessary.
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Requirements
Essential:
Must be a
qualified Trading Standards Officer
(DTS, DCATS, or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of trading standards legislation and enforcement procedures.
Experience in inspections, investigations, and legal proceedings.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
Desirable:
Experience working within a local authority or regulatory enforcement environment.
Knowledge of emerging issues in trading standards, such as e-commerce and product safety.
Flexibility to work additional hours when required.
